For what it is worth, if the issue is money I would chip in to a "Buy Back the Hyper-Pak" fund to get the tooling out of Clifford's hands. We could set up a "GoSlantMe" page and ask for donations.

reed that is what im thinking - a group effort of doers not talkers. people with realistic expectations willing to put some action in place of big talk. i believe it will take 40/50 doers. are there that many willing to put up $ and trust a point person or group????? i know a top notch pattern maker is expensive - i think i have heard of one in the forum? anyway, just thinking.

I have known some of the poeple on this board for over 20 years. I do trust them. Heck, if people were really serious, I am a lawyer and coudl set up a trust or some other legal entity to hodl the money and make sure it is used solely for purposes of repurchasing Doug Dutra's hyperpak tooling from Clifford and then selling/transferring the tooling on to whomever the group believes would be the best party to receive it.

But, yeah, it would take a group of serious people willing to put their money where their mouth is. And the hyperpak was really a boutique item even in the slant six world. I think It would have more appeal if it was modified with fuel injection bungs, but that is neither here nor there. I would be willing to put money towards the project just to see the hyperpak tooling get into the hands of someone who might actually make some more manifolds.

We got a little off track, the thread is for the Exhaust Manifolds.

There was a Clifford intake on Ebay last week for about a week before the seller accepted a best offer deal.
There was a original intake for sale earlier this year that was a no sale at around 750 us dollars.

So you see many, many, many more intakes for sale, but no exhaust manifolds.

Doug, that is an amazing number of exhaust manifolds you cast.
I would have never guessed that number!
So there is a market for both parts.
There are lots of folks who don't want headers and those headaches.

reed im old and computer stupid (and other kinds of stupid) how can we talk? yes we are off topic - im in for both projects. intakes are much more plentiful and i think a hyperpak exhaust repo is even more doable hearing dd's numbers. both projects require the same thing - action.

hey old timers ,do you think are there enough real buyers to support a project like this or mostly talkers. my guess is 40/50 people would be needed to commit to buy to make it work at a realistic cost.
Are you talking about the exhaust or Intake? This thread was about the exhaust.

I had 25-30 on the list of people who said they really wanted the exhaust manifolds. Some have likely moved on to other projects, some have passed away, some may not have the money now...... You get the picture. I would say that if someone did make the exhaust manifolds that you could sell 15-20 right away. Another 15 -20 over the next year or two.

It will cost @ $4000-5000 up front for the tooling to be made. Then they need cast, machined and sold. I figured you would need to sell 20 sets before you would just break even. Plus there is an awful lot of work involved.

I agree. I couldn't put up $4-5k. MAYBE I could swing a few hundred bucks. I would be interested in a final product, but like Rick says, there needs to be at least 20-30 purchasers ready, willing, and able to commit to make the project worthwhile.

Sorry for the thread hijack RE: the intake. It just burns me that Doug's hard work on the hyper-pak wound up with a company that isn't going to do anything with it.

If I knew then... what I know today...
It was 1998 when the H-Pak intake tooling was sold to Jack Clifford.
Jack was a good guy, a knowledgeable engineer and a hard worker. He was really excited to get that intake manifold tooling.
Little did I know that Jack would pass away soon after the deal was made and his family would run Clifford into the ground.
Live, and learn.

H-pak exhaust manifolds would be a nice compliment to that re-poped (and the original) intake manifold but to be honest, the reason there are so few original H-Pak exhaust manifolds is that they did not really perform that well. They have stock size ports and no real scavenging effect. Scavenging type tube steel headers were "invented" around 1962 and countless cast iron exhaust manifold went into the scrap-pile soon afterwards.

I don't mind the discussion, anything Hyper Pak is interesting.
But Clifford is a black hole now, nothing like it was.
They made a business decision to purchase the stuff from Doug.
And he made a decision to sell it to them.
Just like Doug did with the exhaust manifolds to AussieSpeed.
If there is profit to be made with the intakes, I would think the price to buy it back would reflect that.
Meaning Clifford would want even more money to sell the equipment.

I spoke with Murf at Petty Garage today.
Super nice person.
He has been an employee since the '90's.
He said they cleaned out some stuff a few years ago.
Found many V8 odd parts, but he doesn't remember any slant six parts.

But he said he will see Richard and will ask him about it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Still looking.

Mike Sargent said he wants to get them back, but isn't having any luck
Groan. That sounds like an almost sure-fire recipe for Cream of Lost and Gone Forever Soup. :-(
Not necessarly. I lent Mark two sets of Clifford early "A' long tube headers (170 and 225), to copy. Took forever to get them back, but they did come home.
That's great, and I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but stuff happens. People get sick. People die. Leases get terminated. Buildings burn down. And then you're outta luck. It's happened to me at least five times I can think of offhand. Mike's going to want to step up the pressure—way up—and enlist help to get his property back while he can.

was able to talk to woody at tryon patterns , he had some raw guesses. he said he would need the pieces for real numbers.
he does all the work for hot heads in north carolina and did the work on the 318 poly intake for chrysler power - he is not cheap, but is used by those who want quality. he is in the la area 562-864-3449 if any one cares to help get a more solid number. has anyone been hands on with a argentinian race head? any chance the south american stock head has the fast burn chamber standard?
