This is a factory closed chamber head. I have never seen one just like it. I've seen pictures of the Argentine head, but it has different chambers than this. Have any of you ever seen one like it? It's not a milled head, as the two trios of chambers face away from each other. That would be impossible with milling, because the chambers would come out straight. It's also not been welded. It had to be cast this way. Any ideas what it came off of?

Interesting. It is a late model head with the small spark plugs and air injection provisions. Perhaps one of the factory experimental program heads?

Casting number says it's a 75-78 head from what I can find. I can find ZERO pictures of a head with that casting number. And yes, it is the peanut head. I'm unsure about the air injection provision. I'm not familiar with that on a slant six head. How would I tell?

Oh sorry.....casting number is 3698447-9. I assume the series of numbers above that is the date code. 3365.

Rob, is there any chance you could CC a chamber, and also measure the dimension from the valve cover surface to the head gasket surface?

I'll be more than happy to. I don't have it in my hands yet, but as soon as it gets here, I'll post up anything on it yall would like me to. I am very anxious to see it in person myself. I strongly suspected it was milled at first glance, and it may have been to clean it up at some point, but it's not been milled to closed chamber because of how the chambers are angled. Milling from open to closed would have left them straight, so it's as cast. Soon as it gets here I'll post more. In the meantime, here's a closeup of a chamber. It's not been milled at all from what I can tell.

Air injection would have a small hole, about dime sized, on the firewall end of the head.
There will be a smaller threaded hole next to it. This is where the tube from an AIR pump would be bolted on. I can post some pics if needed. I have a 79 peanut head with that provision.

Could the seller tell you what it came off of ?

I was looking at that head as well, Congrats on buying it.

It's not quite the same as the closed chamber Argentinian head.. but more closed that what we are used to seeing here in the states..

At the firewall end of the manifold side of the head there will be a small hole. Also, look at the roof of the exhaust port from the manifold side. There will be tiny ports for the air injection.

Yes, it has that hole. I thought that might be it.

Yeah, it'll be here probably next week. Now, as I asked you directly on FABO, you ever seen one?

It was on eBay in Michigan. After a few messages with the guy and close inspection of the pictures, I felt confident enough to buy it. It should be here next week "or so". Also getting a Camcraft hydraulic cam, hydraulic lifters, pushrods and rocker setup. I won't probably won't be using those, though.

Looks like a stock late 70s head and the bits needed to convert a mechanical lifter slant to hydraulic lifters.

According to the parts matrix:

https://www.slantsix.org/articles/parts-matrix/jpg.htm

Casting 3698447-9 is a stock 75-78 head. Nothing special to see. I suspect someone did some serious angle milling on the bottom of the head to make a pseudo-closed chamber head.
