Boy it’s been a while....

Years ago Doc built me a motor with an rv10 cam. I’ve long lost the cam specs. I think I’m hearing some clacking and want to lash them. Tried searching but came up with wildly varying results from .010 to .022. I remember it was on the small side and I think intake and exhaust were the same but it’s been like a decade or more so who knows.

Is there a safe setting that won’t clack or harm anything else?

This catalog has it at 0.022 but I don’t know if the M makes a difference

The .010 was in reference to an Oregon reground cam to the same rv10 pattern so I guess that doesn’t count.

Is the “rdp” version the same as far as lash goes?

RDP = Reversed Dual Pattern.
A dual pattern cam will use different lobe designs for the intake and the exhaust lobes so the lash settings will usually be different.
Cam lobe designs that have the same lift and duration specifications can have many other differences with the lash (clearance ramps) being an important one.

Bottom line, use the lash setting that works best for the cam (lobe design) you have.
Sounds simple but not so simple in the world of after market and re-ground cams.
( I find it surprising that many cam suppliers give-out incorrect lash information to begin with)

Notice I said "works best" because there is a range of settings that all work but some work "better" then others.
For me, it is better to find the end of the lash ramp and then set the lash .002 - .003 tighter.
To find the end of the lash ramp, loosen the the lash until you start to hear the "ticking"... that is the end of the clearance ramp

For the RV10 RDP that you have, .015 to .018 (.016) intake valve clearance and .020 to .024 (.022) exhaust are the ranges to target.
Some adjustment tips:
Do the adjustments on a running engine at operating temp.
Turn the idle down.
Do a pre-check to see where the clearances are to start and find the noisy and tight clearances.
Try some different settings. Looser on exhaust clearances, with-out noise. Tighter on intake clearances, with-out loosing idle quality.
