Hey Everybody,

I have a contact that I have made, who says he has a K member which has the sway-bar running THROUGH it. I was intending on putting in both front and rear sway-bars on my 72 swinger, but I was going to use the so called .990s from the paddock. The person I am talking to says that the K member he has is a better solution? So my question(s) are:

IS it better? (I must assume because of the angle/ratio of the sway bar?)

If so, how much better, and what might that K member be worth?

Is it only a V8 K member, or was one made with this configuration for the /6.

PS: The person I am talking to, says that it's from a '73? Additionally he says that the component is rare, is this correct?

It is not rare, all A-bodies from '73 on, had the sway going thru the K-member. There are seperate K-members for the /6 and v8 engines. This K-member also use the more desirable spool style of motors mounts. They are not compatiable with the eariler motor mounts. So you would need to change your current motor mounts. Is it valuable, that depends, I gave the last one I had away.

So if I change K members on my /6 then I must change motor mounts over to the newer style? How much does a set of new type motor mounts cost? Any ideas? Additionally, is the new K worth the effort? IE: does it provide any reasonable handling advantage over a heavy duty "Old type" sway bar. I'm asking, because my associate wants about $40 for it.

How hard will it be to add a front sway bar to my 74 Duster? I did'nt come from the factory with one. Will I have any problems installing it with the engine in my car. Swapping K members is not fun. I helped a buddy change the one on his Coronet when he dropped in a 383 in place of the original slant. This was before the E-Z swap kits from Schumacher creative services.

I don't know how difficult it would be using the K member with the sway bar through it. I found a sway bar kit from the paddock for the front of an A-Body for less than 200 bucks though. I am not sure what special parts are required for using it, but I understand that it's not too difficult. I am sure there are much more expreienced people in the forums who can provide detailed information.

I belileve the later K-member gives a slightly wider stance to the front wheels, which is theoretically better for handling. Seems like a lot of work, though ...

The suspension mounting points are the same for all A-bodies. The wider stance in the front is from using disk brakes. If the sway bar mount points superior, I don't know, it could just be a matter of opinion.

I believe the K-members are the same mounting widths from '67-up, but the earlier As had 2" narrower front frame rails if my memory serves.

The K-members are differant between the early A-body and the later A-body. The later ones are physically wider. But the LCA mounting points are the same.

Everybody has so much good information on this. I went ahead and arranged to get a K with the slot in it, but I am still going to get the kit from paddock. If nothing else, then experimenting will hopefully give me some measureable results. Anyone know how much wider my front will be with the disc brakes & lower control arms, than it is now?
