I had #1 not firing, the header was cold.
I went through a leakdown and thought the intake seat was bad or leaking.
After removing the head, it held fluid all night, so that was not it.
Going to put a couple of heads on today and see what I can find.
I need to change this 650 carb I can't keep it from leaking.
There was some fluid sitting in a couple of ports on tear down.

Here is where I am tonight.
Not at Mokan, this is a big disappointment for me.

I ran a compression check today after putting everything back together.
165+ average on all 6 cylinders.
Number 1 had the most pressure.
I have a Chrysler electronic distributor in and hooked to the MSD.
New wires, new pickup.
Cranked it over a few times and it has a good spark.
I have a rebuilt 68 340 AVS carb installed with new fuel lines.
So tomorrow I will start it up again and see how it runs.
I put 2 different heads on the block with the same leakdown numbers.

After getting the AVS floats set and running the 8 gage alternator wire to the disconnect switch I fired the engine again.
I was able to get the engine to idle.
That was the good.
Cylinder read ~ 140 degrees F with the IR meter.
Cylinders 2 through 6 read ~ 250 degrees F.
I swapped #1 and #6 plug wires and plugs to see if that was the problem.
I could hold #1 in my hand, #6 was smoking hot.
Same result.
Since the engine was hot I pulled all the plugs and did a compression test.
Zero on number 1, every other cylinder was ~ 165 PSI.
So I have another head that I will start getting ready.

That is very odd! And frustrating! Did you do another leak down on that cylinder? With no compression you should be able to tell where it is going. Seems like it has to be a valve hanging open to have zero compression. Good luck!

Cast Valve Cover is thicc and keeping one of the valve tips pushed down.


Those Goofy ( in my opinion) Clifford AL Covers are heavier than the OE tin ones anyway,

I think you can solve it with witness marks on the AL Cover and some clearancing (sp?) with a die grinder.

On a tin one just some massaging with a ball peen hammer gets the job done.

Post a picture of the inside of the Clifford cover ... let see if there is some protrusion down neat the rocker tips.

What rockers / Rocker pads are you using?
