Hello, Thanks for adding me. I have wanted another slant 6 since I sold an old Dart 45 years ago!

I bought an 87' D150 with the 3.7. It is a barely running project. Most of the smog stuff is gone with pieces remaining. The truck will be used on a property and there is no state inspection required.

After I do a compression check to feel reasonably comfortable that the internals are good, I would like to get rid of the smog stuff remaining and clean up the engine compartment.

After scouring the info available, it seems to me that if I went with a different carb/intake manifold as well as an HEI distributer/ignition I may be able to have an "old school" slant 6.

If that is correct, what combination of intake/carb would work? I am looking at this ignition:

Thanks,
Tom

Better and cheaper ignition system this way.

That is a great read. I will start looking into it. Any tips on the carb issue? If I do away with the ignition issues, I would sure like to get rid of all those vacuum lines! Half of them are disconnected already!

You wouldn't have to change the intake manifold to delete the computer ignition.
Different carb and distributor would do it along with either a Mopar ECU or GM. HEI module

Outstanding. I am working on getting the carb now. I will probably put the new carb on and run it on a boat gas tank to rule out bad gas, then start cobbing together the ignition parts.
