I would like to join the "might want a set crowd" if they are still taking members.

I had to check with my lead council on all things slant six (Rick), he said i'm allowed to buy them :D

As long as they are close to whats been talked about they sound good for me. I don't have the cash in hand right now, so I don't want to say yes quite yet. I'll try to keep an eye out for updates on here and sell a few things so I'm ready. - If anyone is looking for a W100 let me know haha.

I'd be in for a set please. New member here but I saw Charrlie_S's note about it on FABO so came here to read up.

Thanks, Rich_mc and Andrew. I added you to the lists. Note I changed the name of the "I want a set list," so please read that and tell me if that is not what you meant by "I want a set."

Lou

What is the projected weight, height of the ring-pack , and top of upper ring groove to crown deck?
I may be interested depending on these specs., Thx, Jim K6.

That will be hard to know before we make them. I trust my contact and the experienced piston manufacturer to make the right choices. I will try to ask about that, but guess it will be hard to pin them down.

Thx Lou, I'm OK with 3.464" or 3.484" target bores, the K6 is .060" over with cast
slugs so can be torque plate honed to size no problem. I wouldn't balk at going up another .020" tho', :D

I updated the list. I'll be talking to my contact soon about these.

I spoke with someone at the Knoxville race who said they definitely wanted a set, but now I cannot recall who! Anyone with info on this, I'd appreciate it.

Lou

Lou I don't know of the one from Knoxville? Sorry.

I also will be a no on the pistons. I am happy you are doing this and it is a great thing, but I am already at that bore size. Thanks

Update on these pistons:

I spoke with my contact who is setting up the forged piston deal with Silvolite/Icon/K-B last night. He is going back and forth with the piston engineers on specs. We talked about compression height, quench dome, valve relief pocket(s), pins, coating, etc.

It looks like we will have light pins and 1.82" comp ht (0.06" higher than stock), then about a 0.070" dome that matches the head chamber. He is shipping them a 73 head section so they can get the chamber shape, valve angles, etc. With some "typical" milling of block and head (0.010 - 0.020" off each) and a FelPro type gasket, this will get you around 9.8:1 compression with stock 225 rods.

He is talking to them about ring packs and location of the rings, since they are the experts. I feel like we should look for a ring pack that is 1.2 or 1.5 mm top/2nd and that is OEM off the shelf and fairly recent so it will be easy to order for a number of years. Any ideas? The piston engineers may know too and he will ask. 88.5 mm bore (3.485") size.

Valve reliefs will be sufficient for 1.78/1.50 valves. If you mill the quench dome off and perhaps a bit more off the top, you can easily get to 9:1 or less. If you mill the block and/or head a bit more, you can easily get to 10.5:1 or really whatever you want.

Also, there will be a skirt coating included on these pistons.

It looks like we'll have enough people here on ss.org (plus folks on his end) to get to the minimum order of 80 pistons.

Any further comments, questions, ideas? Hope to have more info in a week or two.

Lou
