Does anyone have a detailed picture showing the difference in a stock cast iron block retainer and the aluminum version?
I have separated mine and I am still looking for one that is "different".

I have no pics, but according to the Aluminum Slant Six Engine Overview on the Articles page, “All the other parts used in these engines are the same as the cast iron SL6.” I didn’t see any mention of the oil seal retainer in the article so I assume it is included in this statement.

It's different, alright. Here's from the '63 FPC; '61 and '63 have same info.

The way I'm reading the parts manual, the seal itself, and the upper retainer, are different on the aluminum engine. The lower retainer is the same as the cast iron engine.
Item 9-11-1 is oil seal package 2084 411
9-11-1 is oil seal package w/225 aluminum engine 2240 650
9-11-1 is oil seal package w/retainer w/225 ci aluminum engine (upper retainer (my view)) 2240 651
9-11-7 retainer (not specified as to which 6 cyl engine) 1947 557
9-11-8 screw retainer w/ 225 ci aluminum engine 455 866

It has been more than 40 years since I worked on a aluminum slant, but if I remember correctly the seal around the crank is the same on both engines. It is the "retainer" seals that are particular to the aluminum engine (I could be wrong about this)
Edit: to add part number for seal/retainer for aluminum engine

Charlie has got it, I am quite sure. The upper is different, the lower is the same as an iron block. Main seal is same, but some of the extra seals are different. RTV can be used for those parts.

Thanks for the info guys, you really are a wealth of information.
I will get one of my blocks moved around and do some fitting of the parts I have here.
I found a 1959 and a 1960 retainer in my stash.
Not to say they are the right ones, but they are my earliest parts.

Thanks Dan for the detailed images.
