You can but you'll need to pull the front bumper and/or the front valance panel. Also, some finesse and RTV is needed when putting the timing cover back on with the existing front oilpan gasket piece. Try not to remove that from the oilpan/engine block when pulling the timing cover.

Probably someone did not break in your cam properly.

Assuming this is a pre-75 head with the drool tubes and open lifter/pushrod valley, you can reach down with a strong magnetic pickup tool and pull the lifter out. You can de-adjust the rocker adjuster screw all the way to get the pushrod out and out of the way.

It is a solid lifter- nothing to "break" really. . If lifter shows wear on the bottom then the cam and lifters need to be replaced.

My opinion for what it is worth. Just pull the engine if it needs the cam replaced. By the time you mess with the grill, valance and struggle with the in car change, and then have a bad oil leak up front, it isn't worth it. If you have a oil leak, then you get to do it all over again. Plus doing a cam degreeing in the car can't be fun.

thanks for you two cents. I agree. It is above my pay grade as a shade tree mechanic. I probably will have to pay someone to do it. More or less, how much should it cost to have someone do it for me? (a lot more than two cents, I am guessing).
