Car ran well at Knoxville, but with 90 temps, and high humidity, there would be no chance of any all time bests. Plus I have 4.56 gears instead of my 4.86's for the 1/8 mile. But the rain ended all the racing after the first round anyway.

So with no other races planned the rest of the year, :( :( I decided to go last evening and try out a test & tune. The weather looked to be real good for a mid August car race. starting at 78 degrees and low humidity at 5:00PM and dropping throughout the evening.

I did reinstall my 4.30 gears which my car seems to like better anyway. I got to make 4 runs and I didn't make a single change to the car until the last run where I bumped the timing 2 degrees. ( No help) Car ran like a champ and rewarded me with an all time best 1/8, 1/4 mile and mph!! :D

Run one- 12.87-103.38
Run two--12.70-104.58, 1/8-8.01 1.69 - 60'
Run 3-----12.77-103.93
Run 4-----12.81-103.00

Reaction times were not too hateful either- .010, -.010,.043, .054

All in all a great evening, and the car drove itself back onto the trailer under its own power!

PS. If I would have left out that 75# I put in the car I may have run a 7.99 and a 12.6_? :D :D

That's awesome, Rick! Glad you are still upping the ante. You might tag those records yet...

I don't make many changes to my car at the track or on race day, but I thought I would go ahead and try a timing change. I normally run 12 initial with a limiter plate on the mechanical giving me @ 28 total. When checking my timing it looked to me to be about 24-25 degrees. So I bumped it up to 28 and locked it down. Next run was no better at 12.81. But I noticed that my timing seems to be bouncing around? At 3000 or so I should be all in and stable. Something just seems off to me. I have a NOS distributor that has vacuum advance on it but it is just left unhooked since Webers have no provision for it. Is it possible the unplugged vacuum advance and its plate is doing something? I'll probably pull it out this week just to take a look. Let me know what you think. Rick

Probably not vac advance. Don't see why it would bounce due to vac adv if unhooked. More likely it's some cross firing among the terminals in the cap (dist phasing between cap/rotor alignment and reluctor/pickup), or some slop in the timing chain and/or dist gear. Won't hurt to cap the vac adv just to try though!

Thanks Lou. I don't have any misfire at all. It sounds great ,especially at 6400rpm! :D :D My cap is a 40 year NOS old long terminal cap and the long tip rotor. I'll check them out

BTW, I often see timing bouncing on my cars. If it runs well, I just ignore it.

Also, on my new crank trigger/MS3X system (on Project V), the timing is ROCK solid. Never seen it like that before.
