going to be putting a four barrel on my dart soon and was wondering what any body uses. i have a holley 390 cfm vaccum sec. carb waiting for a rebuild. i have heard that the edelbrock performer 500 cfm works well on a /6 and i like the ease adjustability of it.

the motor it will be going on is slightly modified with a compcams 252s cam and clifford headers with a full 2.5" inch exhaust with a flowmaster 3-chamber muffler. the block is bored .040" and the head is bone stock. compression on the engine is stock, i am assuming.i will be using a clifford aluminum manifold and there is a overdrive fourspeed bolted to the back of the engine.

my question is which carb would work better on my engine? do i need to do more work like raise compression?

If going to all that work, I'd raise compression to 9:1. The Holley 390 will be fine and if you can keep your foot out of it, it will help mileage...

When you get another 'chunk' of change, get rid of the 3.21's in the 8 1/4" and go with 3.55's... the 3.21's allow the overdrive to come into play only at higher constant highway speeds. With 3.55's I'm able to use the OD gear on the street at 35-45 mph in town.....and have more fun...
