I been out for past week sick as a dog..

Today finally was able to install the governor that DI sent me, which is roughed in to about 10* and compared to my 9 it looks very close to 10... While I was sick I also spent about an hour will a good set of needle nose pilars making a "loop" in a stock Lite spring that normally doesn't have a loop.. worked well, its very strong I doubt it will ever come undone. Looks like it was made that way. :)

I painted a white line on the Balancer that is 20deg before the TDC mark. The Idea here is simple, as the mech advance; advances the timing, I can use that 20deg line to see where my timing is and adjust by 20degs. I did this by moving the balancer TDC mark to the 10BTDC on the timing tab... Then made the line at the 10ATDC, which is 20deg total. it is easy to tell the 2 lines apart while timing the car.

I set the initial advance to 10BTDC.
Then I revved the engine to about 1.9k-2k RPM where it stopped advancing, Looking at my 20deg off mark it was reading 8BTDC adjusting for 20 degs off of the mark, thats 28deg of total advance.

This is a little less advance than I expected or would like but I think I will leave it there for the time being, maybe adjust it later...

One thing I found odd, the car doesn't start as easy when it's warmed up?

When I drove it tonight I couldn't believe how much more zip the car had.. where I noticed it most was normal accelrating from stops, it just had a firmer pull. It's just awesome the perfromance changing a spring can bring about.

I have sent 'one more' of those out to another slanter, hopefully he'll get his into place and see how it goes, then I can 'mod' up two more governors and let some others go for the 'recurve' with less hassle.

Can you explain again what you did with that spring? I am pretty much at the same point you were. Trying to re-curve my distributor after the super six swap.

Are you talking about the thiner red spring? How do you re-bend it exactly? And what does this do the the advace?

Still haven't got any cores back from guys so I can make a couple more for others who are interested.

I had 'one' left that should've been a 10R, so I used the cardone remanf out of my '74 (that had a 15R in it), and recurved that one and threw it into the Hpak duster today. The distributor is setup like previously described and it curved at 20 deg. advance all in by 2300, vacuum pod had 20 degrees of advance at 15" HG (then it dropped off to around 8 degrees @ 10"Hg)....I set the initial advance at 10BTDC, and set the advance plate up so I maxed out at 12BTDC initial for advance, but still had room to pull out about 6 degrees if I needed to retard it due to gas quality.

Will make a few 'comments' on how things go while I commute to work this week, etc...
