Well here are some pictures from the event.

It was great to meet a bunch of new folks and I hope that we continue to pull in some interested people.

rich_mc was there along with not2slow's buddy that towed his fantastic white '67 v100 from Oklahoma. There was another '67 Valiant (maybe a signet this time) from Near Charlotte, NC, and other Stalwart supporters of the Slant 6 racing Community. David and Bryce Gill were there from Gill Welding with the Lab Rat - Warhammer was not present :-( but those things happen. There were plenty of Bruners there also, and I got to race Isiah Bruner in the Beige '64 Valiant during one round.

not2slow's dragster was laying down some passes while staying away from the crack.
No records to be had this weekend that I know of.

Mark C. From Marion, VA Brought his Auto X ready and very cool 1960 Valiant Sedan. He Made it to the final round on Saturday, then found a little too much HP in the 170 breaking out by nearly 0.2 on the final pass of the evening! Congrats Mark.

The Bruner Bunch Beige Valiant and the Covalt Clan Valiant pitted near each other.

Ryan Covalt managed to break another Dodge Truck south of the Mason-Dixon line. As of this writing, I am not sure if It made it home safely or not.

Awesome write up and pictures Greg! Congrats on the double win too! It was awesome seeing Mark in the finals too!

We did make it home fortunately. There were many clouds of billowing smoke scattered between Tennessee and Pennsylvania, but a bunch of oil, Lucas engine treatment and duct tape was able to minimize the blow by symptoms and help us make the 500 mile trip home. Dad's Tahoe also had its fair share of gremlins on the drive back and shut off multiple times on the highway, leading to some auto parts stops and repairs there too. We ended up staying off the highway for the final 200 miles just to keep from breaking down on the interstate but we made it home around 10pm last night. We successfully turned an 8hr trip into about 15 hours but all in all it wasn't that bad and both vehicles made it back.

It was awesome getting to see some new racers and meet a few others I hadn't met before. And it's always great to see all of you that I've raced with for many years. The Bruners hospitality was amazing as always. The gave us great food at the track and a super nice place to stay. I'm truly thankful to be a part of this slanted family! Even though the truck broke and I didn't get to race I really had a good time with everyone! I have some video of the race that I will try to put together when I get a chance and post up here.

I am glad Ryan and Rick made it home safely!

I did not realize there were issues with the Tahoe as well.

Greg

Shawn's V100 has a Muller Muncher engine in it, all the way from the wrong coast!
Or was it a Colt Crusher, I can't keep those straight.
He had trailer trouble going home, threw a tire.

Thanks for the great weekend, everyone, and the great pics, vids, reports. I had a ball, even though it was a bit hectic collecting tech cards and convincing the folks in the track tower to let us run late. They enjoyed having us and want us back next year! I'm happy to coordinate this again. Thanks to Rick for lending me 3 pens... ;)

Wonderful to stay with Barbara and Gary Bruner and get to interact with them and the whole Bruner clan. It was strange not seeing Ella, who sadly passed away a few months ago, and Lukus, who has been gone a year. Meril is hanging in there, and would appreciate visitors or other contacts. Isiah seems to be doing pretty well in his life too, with a good job and some drag racing going on (and local track wins!).

Very nice turnout, with 12 cars each day. Here are the ladders/results:

FRIDAY:

1st round
Rich Mcneely (torqstorm Scamp) vs. Andy (truck, new guy, friend of Gills) -- Rich wins because Andy had to leave early
Bryce Gill (Lab Rat) vs. Ryan Covalt (86 truck) -- Ryan wins
Rick Covalt vs. Shawn Verneris (from OK, with white 67 post Val) -- Rick wins
Greg Ondayko vs. Isiah Bruner (in Gary's 65 Val) -- Greg wins
Lou Madsen vs. Scott Howell (from Charlotte, with blue 67 Val) -- Scott wins on Lou's breakout
Sean Landis (65 Fury I from Knoxville area) vs. Jeff Kendall (dragster, from OK) -- Jeff wins

2nd round
Rich vs. Ryan -- Rich wins
Rick vs Greg -- Greg wins
Scott vs. Jeff -- Scott wins

3rd round
Rich vs. Greg -- Greg wins
Scott gets the BYE

Final
Greg vs. Scott -- Greg takes it.

$350 total prize money plus Gill Welding prizes distributed!

SATURDAY:

1st round
Lou vs. Isiah -- Lou wins
Sean L vs. Shawn V -- Sean wins (haha, Sean L in the C-body)
Jeff vs. Billy (driving GillWelding Lab Rat) -- Billy wins
Scott H vs. Greg -- Greg wins
Rodney Hargis (in red 62 Lancer street car) vs. Rich M -- Rich wins
Rick vs. Mark Charapich (60 Valiant with 170, corner carver) -- Mark wins

2nd round
Lou vs. Sean L -- Lou wins
Billy vs. Greg -- Greg wins
Rich vs. Mark -- Mark wins

3rd round
Lou vs. Greg - Greg wins in a sorta close one (nice driving Greg)
Mark -- BYE (first time in a final - congrats Mark!!)

Final
Greg vs. Mark -- Greg wins. I think Mark broke out and maybe ran fastest ever with this car, around 11.0)

All in all, a lovely weekend of racing. I headed west a little and spent the afternoon with Rodney in Wartburg. Great lunch at Partners Pizza, followed by helping Rodney pull and finish some disassembly of the Grasshopper Lancer engine. New engine is ready to go in once repairs are made to the wrinkled oilpan.

Slant on!
Lou

I think these were the highest attended races since before COVID. Notice that in the two days of racing we also had 15 total racers in 14 different Slant 6 vehicles. 6 of these racers were all new racers or could be classified as rookies under our existing rules (no more than one race attended in a previous year). Let's keep em coming!!

IMHO, we need to do Knoxville next year, and then no more than 2 other races in the East.

Lou

Knoxville was a great collection of fantastic cars and fantastic people.
Thanks Lou for organizing the event and doing all the communications with the track.
Congratulations Greg! Great job sweeping the event.
Not the weekend we wanted for the #43.

Just for reference:
In 2020, last time I raced at Knoxville, I set a new AA/G record at 6.98.
In 2023, last time i raced at Clay City, we were dialed in at 6.70.
This past weekend at Knoxville, we ran a 6.34.

I will be submitting time slips to establish the AA/A 1/8 mile record at 6.34
The car has come a long way since I built it in 2020.

Many of you know my goal has been to get the car into the 9s in the 1/4. I think we are very close.

Here is the damage sustained at Knoxville. I'm kind of glad I was eliminated. This will get fixed in short order.

BTW: The last minuet block swap worked fine. I don't think anyone realized the engine had 0 passes when we showed up.

May i suggest, if time permits, we have the group go around to each car and let the owner give a short introduction of themselves and/or the car. I know we were on a tight schedule with several of us racing other classes.
