That’s one heckuva deal you got, Charlie!
I thought Robert gave me a super deal originally. But the more I look into things, the better the deal is. From what I gather he was building the car for "corner carving". The car has bigger torsion bars, front disc brakes, a big front sway bar, and special shocks. The rear suspension looks like it is still stock with a 7 1/4 rear, but there is a new aftermarket rear sway bar in the box, that came with the car. Also in the trunk was a 7 1/4 SG unit. But I have a choice of rear ends. I have a 8 inch Ford with 4.10 gears, also a 8 3/4 with 3.91 gears in stock. If I wanted to stay with a 7 1/4 I have a large bolt pattern with 3.23 gears. I'm dying to get to work on it, but have to resist the urge, until I finish up some other vehicle issues.
PS: It has a push button 904 that is fairly fresh, but Robert doesn't know if the converter has been upgraded. I just happen to have a 9 1/2 inch converter in stock and a full manual valve body for a PB trans.

I just found this old threat at "For A Bodies Only". It is about the engine in my 64.

Just got this car on 8-1-2024 This will be my build thread. Had it transported from NY to Florida.
Quote:
This 1964 Valiant V200 sedan has been stored for 10 years. Too much travel and work has gotten in the way and it's become very difficult for me to finish it.

Located in Queens, NYC.

This car was purchased new in San Diego, CA by my great grandfather. Originally white, 225 slant and 904 auto. No other options. My grandmother inherited it when he died and painted it red in the 1970s. In 2005 it became mine, and I drove it in Southern California as my daily driver (this was my fourth early A body) with some minor updates until the motor wore out. At that time (2014) I pulled it down to a bare shell and had it stripped to bare metal, some minor welding done (right floorboard, some trunk spots and cowl) and repainted with Glasurit single stage paint in an orange-red shade very close to the original. The top is white.

At the same time I rebuilt the motor with all the goodies, reinstalled it and got the car running but not finished before I had to put it in storage and moved across the country for work. It's been in basically that state ever since. Right now it needs the interior finished, and it needs an intake system, plumbing, lights and wiring, etc. It drove to where it is but I removed the webers that I could never get running. I've been collecting the parts for an EFI conversion and they can go with them for the right price. There are $15k worth of parts here. Detailed specs below.

Engine/Trans:
Ported 1968 head (drool tube)
Oversized valves
verified 10:1 compression
Custom cam grind from Delta (specs included)
Roller timing chain
new rockers, lightweight pushrods
offy valve cover
Forged pistons/rods (balanced - .040 over)
10/10 forged crank
Clifford headers
blueprinted stock oil pump
oil baffle
Crank trigger wheel (36-1)
Gill welding EFI intake (for the right price) with OEM 440cc Bosch injectors, harness, mustang 5.0 TB, all sensors and COP ignition coils (Porsche). Includes Speeduino ECU. The harness is set up for 3 channel semi-sequential.
Delco alternator brackets/alternator
Aluminum radiator
904 cable shift auto, rebuilt years back with V8 clutches. Stock pot joint driveshaft.
2.5" exhaust mild steel.

Chassis:
Borgeson Saginaw Steering box and Saginaw pump
Stock steering shaft with bearing at the bottom and needle u-joint
1.0 torsion bars
large front sway bar
Edelbrock shocks
11.75 front discs, aluminum master. Prop valve.
(stock 7.25 rear)
14" steelies with ancient tires

Interior
Older red cloth bench seats. Newer carpet kit. Rough door panels. Needs assembly or re-done. Headliner, dash cover in a box.
New rear package tray, kick panels, etc.
3-point seat belt mounting
Nardi wood steering wheel, otherwise stock.

Body
Fresh paint (10 years ago!) 2-tone with white top. Dirty from storage. Tiny bit of welding in trunk and passenger floor. Has been in storage since body work. All lights are in the trunk. Reassembled with stainless bolts, new door handles, new hinges, new window seals, new door seals, door window whiskers, etc. etc. All rubber is new from front to rear. Fender liners were powder coated black, along with all brackets. Bumpers are straight-ish but could use a rechrome. Includes all emblems.

Original California black plates, original California registration. Has never been registered outside of the state (or by anyone other than my family). Original owners manual, piles of receipts, most stock parts, and boxes of extras.

This car just needs someone with more time and enthusiasm than I have at the moment to finish the interior, plumb the fuel system and install the lights plus all the little things that take forever. Pictures are from when it was first painted. I can get more pics but it's in storage and not easy to access.

Would love $5k plus the EFI parts that I just spent $1000 on. Could really use my storage back and want to see this back on the road.

Robert cut me a "super" deal on this car.
For the EFI setup, taking your time to get the carb sorted first sounds like a smart move. Once you’ve got the baseline, switching to EFI should be a smoother transition, especially since you’re already comfortable with electrical work.

Not really working on the car, yet. Just starting to go thru some of the parts boxes, both to see what is there, and looking for some parts I will need early on. Found the battery tray and one brace, need to find the other brace. Man, this is going to be a project. Like a giant jig saw puzzle, with extra pieces. There are compartment boxes/bins, with all kinds of hardware, that I have no idea where some pieces go. I did find the taillight assemblies, but no "new" lenses. There is a person in Mexico that repops a lot of lenses. I have bought from him before, but can't find his info. Can anyone help? Of course I have a pair of NOS 66 Valiant lenses, but none for a 64.

Thanks. I found him and asked for a quote, and he responded. Not ready to buy yet. Need to make sure I don't have good ones with the parts I got with the car.

I wound up finding 2 sets of tail light housings. Lenses aren't perfect, so I think I will get some new lenses. Also I found another pushbutton shifter assy, and the bezel (There is one in the car now). 3 sets of armrests, one set completed refurbished. I do need some better "pads". Also found 3 sets of wiper arms that are the screw on type, in real nice condition. Oh, and 2 more instrument clusters. I still have several more tubs to go through.

Sounds like you got a great deal, Charlie! I am a bit jealous. My first project car ever was a 64 Signet. Good luck with the reassembly!

I got a fantastic deal. I find it hard to believe Robert couldn't sell the car in his area for a good price. I have gotten many good deals over the years but this is the best. So many people have really helped me to enjoy my car hobby.
There wasn't a trans dipstick in the tube, so today I remembered to go to the car with a dipstick. Trans is full of beautiful red non stinky fluid.

Found another part. Mopar P4120092 Pushrod and tool package. To make custom length pushrods. It was in the large box for the rear sway bar.

Interesting. I saw his ad when he first posted it, and again a few times after that, and looked it over very closely.
It was tempting, and I need another project like I need a hole in my head, but the main reason I never even contacted him was his location.

I grew up in NYC, I am very familiar with NYC, so, based on decades of my own and other people's experience, I would never buy a car from anyone in NYC under any circumstances. Reasons include low propensity to perform any maintenance whatsoever (most people don't want to lie down under the car on a busy street and drain the oil into a storm drain, which is kinda the "old skool" standard, or bring it to some guy from an unidentifiable part of the world, in a postapocalyptic shantytown full of similar guys, which is the "new" way of doing it), high propensity to have been involved in multiple accidents, and extremely high propensity that the seller is a lowlife and nothing that he says has even a passing acquaintance with the truth.
The photos on a Queens street and at a Queens storage unit clinched it for me.

So, I am very pleasantly surprised, and very happy that you got a good deal, all the more so because you apparently closed it without even physically seeing the car.

I'm following your threat with great interest.

- Eric

I would hazard a guess that Robert has over $10,000 invested in this car. Maybe more. This car is so nice, and has so many parts with it I felt bad about the deal he gave me. I couldn't pay what I felt the car was worth, but I did send him what I could, after seeing the car. Hopefully I can get it finished, and do it justice.

Just a little update:
Haven't really worked on the car, yet. I did remove the radiator that was in the car. I felt it was too small (and universal style). I had a Champion 3 row aluminum radiator in stock for a 64 Valiant so installed that one. So far just gathering parts. Got new tail light and back up light lenses from Mexico. Tail light housing gaskets from DMT. New battery tray and braces from Classic industries.
The some 64-66 Valiants had a padded front edge of the dash. This car did have it but it was removed and the padding removed from the metal base. A dash cover came with the car (plastic "glue on" type) but it doesn't fit the base properly with the padding removed. I purchased a used stock dash pad to use as a model, and yesterday took all the dash parts to the upholsterer and he is going to recover the bare metal base of the pad. It will not look original. I actually think it will be better.
