I have a 83 d150 spant six. So the fuel guage won't read. I changed out the unit with a new lmc fuel sending unit since the unit that it had was for a ram charger. I do know that the gas is low but it should at least read something right? At least on E. I was told told that it's a dash issue. If so how could I fix? Would rather not have the guy fix it since he is making a 60s dodge pickup look like a chevy. Any help would be great.

Start with a bit of testing. The gauge should read 10 ohms full and 73 ohms empty. You can check the gauge at the tank without taking it out - measure the resistance from the terminal to the sending unit sheet metal with the wire unplugged. What do you measure?

If the temp gauge reads ok, I would assume that the CVR is good. If the sender ohms out ok, I would do two things. Take a clip lead, and connect one end to the metal fuel line on the sending unit to a good ground. Also take a test light, and see if you have a pulsing light, when connected to ground and connected the wire that goes to the sending unit.
