I have a Australian 160 bh slant, I had it reconditioned about 2 years ago it has developed a knocking sound when engine has warmed up only happens when at idle end up locating where the sound was coming from in timing case. Timing gear is double row chain after removal of chain and gears looks like camshaft gear is rubbing on engine block only my thinking is that the cam shaft may be to short not sticking out far enough from block? any comments are all slant 6 cams the same length.

I had a tap/tick with my last engine.
Cam center bolt was loose.
It sheared the cam dowel pin and engine jumped time.
