Doesn't look like I posted anything about Knoxville! I must be getting old! :D

Anyway the last piece of the puzzle arrived from Summit yesterday. New Clutch and pressure plate. Everything else is in hand.

Picture shows the Mcleod Super Street Pro V8 clucth with dual friction surfaces. Creitz Manufacturing, from Tulsa, lightweight steel flywheel. 16.5# for a V 8 flywheel in steel I would guess is light. I know it will help the revs but I am not sure how the launch will react. But I picked it up for a song so I will give it a try.

Nice! Can’t wait to help put it all in. We should be able to pull a truck engine out in a few minutes at this point

You are right with the exception of one thing. Pulling the stupid headers off the truck is a nightmare. Rather pull 3 sets of long tubes off the race car.

Rev to 5000, Dump clutch.

That's what I used to do with the dart. It sucked for consistency, so I never won many rounds in that car, but it was fun while it lasted.

Enjoy your parts and parts swapping!

Greg

When I pull the engine to do the transmission swap, I plan to paint my inner fender wells and firewall. They have always been black and that bothers me. So I had two spray cans color matched to the cars "blue" color. I had to test it out so I prepped another valve cover and primered and painted it to see what looked like. It matches very well! :D :D

Pictures also show the 3/8" aluminum spacer that Matt Deemer had made up to raise the valve cover up for clearance. I was doing a test fit for him and they are super nice. He has them listed on E-bay but he told me if you contact him directly he will sell them to .org members for @ $100. Thanks Matt!

Well, Now I have question. A little history first.

Built my Big bore engine in 2019 and it is exactly the same internally now as it was then except for a cam change. The original cam was .566 lift 257@ .050 duration on both Intake and exhaust. It had 49 degrees overlap at .050. On this engine I ran it up to temp, pulled all the plugs and did a compression test. All cylinders were between 184# & 187# which seemed normal to me. Fast forward 5 years and about 200 runs later.

Current engine camshaft is .571/267 @ .050 Intake. .550/262@.050 Exhaust. 52 1/2 degree overlap 2 .050.
I did a compression test on this engine for the first time with this cam. And I was surprised to find that I only have compression of 152-158# on the engine. Basically 30# less than with the other cam. With only 3 1/2 degrees more overlap it didn't seem right to me , but I am not that sharp either. :D :D

Car is running fine, doesn't smoke or use oil and is still running at or near all time best ET & MPH. Just thought some of you smart folks could ponder this one with me.

Truthfully if I only have 155# of compression, then I probably don't need race gas. I did check the compression with 2 different compression testers.

It might be the difference in camshaft.

Can you do a leakdown on it?

Yes I can do a leakdown test. I just didn't think the cams were that different

Just ran out to the garage and did a leakdown on #1 cylinder. And it was only 9-10%. And that was cold, not warmed up at all. I suspect the ring seal to be better when warmed up. So 10% cold is likely fine or actually pretty good. Most testers show "good" being up to 30 or 40% leakage. I'll warm it all up and retest all 6 cylinders after midnight tonight! :D I imagine they will all be in the same neighborhood.

I just turn the motor over by hand, and if I can't hear compression squirting into the pan it's good to go.
