Hey all. Just got a 182 d150 short bed. Came with a nice running slant w a bid holley 2 bbl and old Aussiespeed headers on it. Hei swapped and oit looks like a newish rebuild.

The trans is a 833 4 speed and is very noisy, and irritated. I cant use 4th at all for fear of the loud angry cat inside of it getting loose and mauling me to death.

I have a 904 and a 727 that will bolt up and a cross member. is the existing drive shaft usable for the 904? I would put in a locar floor shifter and a shift kit as well so what recommendations might you have for this?

It is a cool little truck that I intend to have some go fast fun with as well as cruise the cars n coffee circuit.

Maybe take to mason dixon this spring.

Are your 904 or 727 out from behind a /6? They have to have been in order to bolt up behind one, a v8 one won't.
You talk about going to Mason Dixon, so that helps tell which part of the country you're probably from, we have several well knowing /6 people out there that may also have spare parts laying around if you ask. I sent you a PM but I'm probably a bit far away to be much help. Most here are big fans of a 904 if going auto. If you don't mind the idea of keeping a stick, I'm sure someone has a trans like what you have laying around collecting dust.
The last screeching stick tranny's I had one was just low on fluid (was quietest in 3rd, same model trans as you have) the other had a bad throw out bearing.

Oh yes both from a /6. not new to them, just new to transmission swaps.



This a833 is leaking from everywhere and is screaming in all gears,,,,but 4th is an unholy nightmare of a sound.

I know my transmissions will bolt in. What I don't know is the length of the drive shafts needed for each one in a short bed truck.

Hey Volaredon. Thanks for the pm. If the existing driveshaft is the same as the one needed for a 727 swap then i am in business and thanks for the info!

Now to source a floor shifter. what have you fellas done for floor shifters in the old trucks?.

I met a guy at Mason Dixon last yr with his son. he had a slant b100 truck as well.

Ok fellas. I intend to use the shift tower from the manual shifter . What floor shifter would be best to run on such a set up. I intend to run a reverse valve body on that 727 with a stout shift kit.

Looking at the mr gasket or B&M but i am sure i am not the only one to do this. I could get an auto steering column but just trying to be cheap.

I'd be looking elsewhere for a shift kit. I haven't had any luck with either of those. I have much better luck with trans GO.

Ah yes trans go is the stuff. But WHAT SHIFTER?

I have an auto linkage from a 79 with the kickdown so that should be covered. But what actual shifter would best fit in the shift tower that came with the truck? cable actuated? B&M and Mr gasket have them all over ebay but what does the d150 community recommend?

Also, through the weekends diggings i found that this is a recent reman engine. This bugger is CLEAN. The long block is brand new. still has pristine brand new black engine paint on it with old valve cover, oil pan and dirty old accessories. Oil covered, caked with gack and very loosely bolted on the engine. It is a hydraulic valve train engine. Whoever put it together neglected to install a timing cover seal so that just spewed oil everywhere.....Still has the "mexico" tag on the front of the motor. Pretty excited.

Will a cam from a nonhydraulic engine still work in it with hydraulic valve train?

You shouldn't have problem finding a stock auto trans column and linkage. You have lots of years of these trucks to pick from. Easiest and most trouble free option. I can't answer for the aftermarket floor shift options.
I saw a 80s series truck lately for sale (think it was eBay) where they used something that looked like it came from a ford "something" looked like the floor shift they used stick in a mustang II or pinto possibly an 80s ranger...
Not saying that's what I'd use at all just that "someone else did and it apparently worked". Somehow.

Thank you Volaredon for the Pinto shifter info. I will 100% use a ford part in a dodge. I am not a purist. If it fits , it ships. And while it would be easier to use an automatic column as there are plenty in my local junk yards, I like the idea and function of a floor shifter for go fast fun stuff.
