Hi Gang,

Long time no hear. Car has been much running better. Thanks all.

Car is 1966 Dart /6 225.

Did a front disc brake conversion a while back and have a proportioning valve question. The 2 lines coming out from the master cylinder both enter a brass valve and I put an aftermarket proportioning valve on as well (a black aluminum MP one) just behind the brass one. Here is a pic of my setup. Do I need both or can I just use the aftermarket one?

Thanks,

Tom

You don't necessarily need it but I'd keep it anyway because you are going to have to use some fittings and tees otherwise.

So do most people leave out the brass proportioning valve? I ask this because one of my connections leak and I would think that the fewer the connections the better.

Well getting rid of the stock brass unit will not necessarily lead you to less leak potential.

You will have to take the front like of the master cylinder to a tee, to split off between left and right wheels (So theres 3 fittings that could leak) and the rear line directly to your proportioning valve (theres another). Plus add on top of that all the adapter fittings you may require.....

Remove the line thats leaking and look at the flare on the line itself and in the valve. If it looks ok and not distorted, retighten it again and make sure its snug so the flare crushes right.

I would chose between the stock metering/propotioning valve and the aftermarket one. I use a stock one on my 65 Valiant just because it is so nicely balanced(best of all the fleet I might add). Adding an adjustable valve is ok if you have too much rear brakes but is detrimental in all other situations. If you need more rear brakes remove the original and control with the adjustable.
Lou is a good resource here.
