At this time RT66 opens 1 time a year for the NHRA national event. I'm not sure how it's structured but the NHRA pays RT66 track rental, and RT66 also gets a cut of the concessions. The NHRA brings in their own timing system and track prep/safety equipment.

NASCAR actually owns RT66 as part of the deal to get the Cup track built. NASCAR hates opening the gates for anything that doesn't put a ton of money in their pocket. They never did like the bracket program.

After being closed for Covid, the Cup track is reopening this year. Apparently their deal with Chicago for racing downtown wasn't that cool. I suspect Billion Dollar Brandon tried to put the squeeze on them for more money too.

RT66 is going to be the start/end spot for Drag Week this summer. I was hoping that between this and the Cup track reopening there was hope for a bracket schedule, but sadly, no.

As a side note, there is a great little dirt track on the grounds at RT66. They have been running every year since the Covid ban lifted.

Wow! It looks like a world class facility. I can't imagine that they would not want to lease it to someone for the times all year it is setting doing nothing and make something off of it.
