G'morning all, find myself ready to do more 'custom touches' to my '73 Scamp. Aka Grumpy. One thing that's bothered me is the protruding side marker lights. Idea is to replace them with '70 Challenger side markers. They'll sit flush and have a nice chrome trim Though not a body man, I'm gonna install them. What's the worst that could happen? I'd also like to get the markers to sync with the blinkers. Currently just running lights. Per Mr. Dan's recommendations, I've rewired the charging, ignition and headlight circuits with new wires, relays and such. Will be doing the same with the side markers/blinkers. I have the electrical diagrams for the '73 Valiant but not 100% sure of the new wire routing or any extra bits I might need. Is there a wiring dia that shows proper layout already? Any and all advise is welcome. Thanks for your time

My page on that mod is here. Front ones only; don't mess with the rears.

Wise to put (thoughtfully-chosen) brighter bulbs in the front markers so your newly-activated side turn signal repeaters are clearly visible to others even in bright daylight; give me a squawk (DM or email) if/as/when you wish to talk it over.

Thank you for the reply/link Dan. Twas a good read. Your 'don't mess with the rears' line put a stop to the side blinker mod. I'll still do the marker swap. But if syncing the rears isn't possible/advised I'll leave the wiring be. Well after I've replaced it all. Agreed, doing the fronts could assist other drivers to know my turning intents. Me knowing the rears are not signaling would be irksome. Not the most reasonable position on my part but umm yeah.

And I stumbled onto your Behr ultra white paint write-up. I'm in

Wait a sec, wait a sec.

You're not going to make your turn signals visible to the side…because that will be achieved most effectively by flashing only the front side markers, and that would bother you because the rear side markers wouldn't flash? Even though millions of cars have been built that way and very few have been built the way you want to do it? So you're going to keep your turn signals invisible to the side?

I…don't get it. You can't even see your car's side markers, front or rear, when you're driving the car.
