If you're shooting for 10s and 9s (or 12s or 11s…), and running 4.10s, I have some doubts about the life expectancy of a 7¼" rear axle, I do! If you're planning on adding weight to the back, the rear axle might be a very fine place to put it.

Dan — thank you for talking some sense into me. I have not really looked into rearend options and I’m glad you said something, because Moser has some great pricing. It changes the plans up a bit, but I think you are right. I was scared about putting so much more rotating mass back there, but I think with gun-drilling the axles it will be negligible and allows me to blueprint better. I’m still thinking about running 24.5 slicks, but now with the 9-inch that Moser offers I have much more freedom for rear gears and aftermarket support. Just adding up the $$ though.

Charlie will likely speak up but he has run the 7 1/4" rear with slicks like you are speaking of. You may get by with it for a while, but if it was me unless I had a complete 7 1/4" setup all ready to go I'd move on to something else. The 8 3/4' is a great rear with plenty of support and could be a near drop in for your car. Don't get to worried about the "cool" stuff like gun drilled axles unless you have money to burn. Your car won't know if it has them or not. And I seriously doubt your ET or seat of the pants will notice either.

Moser builds rearends specifically for the a body they do ford 9” and the 8.75. The gear availability for the 9 inch is massive but who knows/ ill cross that bridge when I get to it. And as for the fancy things you right
