OK, not a Slanted event, but it'll be an event... :wink:

My '66 Valiant "Project V" will be at the VIR-Patriot course (www.virclub.com) with the Tar Heels Sports Car Club (www.thscc.com, lapping and time trial) on 9/11-12. It's the first road
course outing for this work in progress. Details on the car at:

This will be, I'm sure, the only old Mopar there of any kind, and probably the oldest car by several years. Last time out with this group, I was around 10th fastest out of 50 cars in my '64 Dart. Lots of new/old Z cars, BMWs, Porsches, Vettes...

We also plan to run the car at Carolina Motorsports Park (Kershaw, SC) on 10/23-4 (1hr south of Charlotte). Hopefully more upgrades by then...

Good luck Lou! Alex and I will add poly bushings and new 5 leaf springs to our Valiant this weekend. Your car is our hero! Because Alex is 19 his budget for gofast is limited but his desire for G-forces is maximised. Seeing an early A-body backed by considerable expertise and a gofast budget is inspiring. We may see our big motor upgrade make the front burner soon.,,,,if only to be able to outrun V!

Heck, your car is my hero too, Sandy. Poly rear bushings are da shiznit, as you probably already know.

V has a mostly stock motor for the moment, but is very light (will weigh it soon). It'll be fun when I get 250+HP pushing it...

Your motor upgrade sounds like a great one. FYI, I had a head built by a prominent Slant racer and it flowed >30% better than a stock head - should make some serious power. Headwork like you're doing should net huge gains.

I wish we could get our car to a road race. We viewed some vintage sports car races several years back. The notion our car could have been competative still haunts me. Alas the nearest sports car track is 6 hours away and the nearest autocross 3 hours. We tow every day for work, I want to drive to race.

Our motor build made some large leaps forward this week as another Fuel Injection project we have going here is nearing completion. "large overlap cams "self EGR" reducing the need for premium fuel or retarded timing with higher compression" This concept is key to our TBI build which mimics our work on our other vehicles. (SBC big torque, towing motors) More and more Im leaning to longer duration cams on TBI projects.

Where can I learn more about your strut rod mods? They look like a sensible approach to the weak spot on A-bodies.

I'm also a big fan of long dur cams. 10.5 comp, 250 @0.050" and 106 deg LSA can still get 24-27 MPG with well tuned TBI (my '64).

Strut rod kit came from www.bigblockdart.com. Bill Reilly is a cool dude. You could probably build that kit for $50-70 in materials (very nice rod ends).
