Hello All,

I'm having problems getting the ole Dart runnin', so I thought I'd change my perspective and focus on something completely trivial. Any advice on getting a good stance outta the stock rear springs. I've seen some "kits" at the local discount auto that could raise the back end of the car to give it a more "agressive" look, and I've seen some post refering to putting some SS springs out back. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of either situation? If it's gonna sit in my driveway, I at least want to make it look good...

As always, thanks in advance...

I wouldn't mess around with blocks n'whatnot when new springs are $125/pair from espo (www.springsnthings.com) I think the +2" ones are like $25 more.

I don't think blocks will work in our cars because the axle is above the leafsprings. They were made for axles below the springs.

You can always drop the front end a little via torsion bars. This will get rid of some suspension travel so be careful over bumps.

I feel for ya dude! I just went from 225/75R14's to 235/60R14's and lost 3/4 of an inch in the rear. now I have to either get longer shackels or lift springs. Just don't go the air shock rout. it puts way to much stress on the top shock mount. I do have a spare set of springs I may just take my spring packs appart and add a leaf to the rears.

Putting the back end up too high or too hard can make the rear come around when braking and cornering. Restoring origional height is one thing, but adding 4" to the rear will mess up the handling.

New rear spings seems like the truely cost vers effect route in my limited experience.

2 weeks ago $69 per side....get poly bushings at the same time. Lower the rear 2" by swapping the front spring mounts side for side and turning them up side down. Lower the rear to match by turning down the torsion bars....add good gas shocks, low profile tires and sway bars to compensate.

I asked about bushings, but they said they didn't have 'em. :?
I'll get them when I order the front end kit.

The JCWhitney HD springs are stiffer but do they alter height?

Also, the espo springs come with bushings already installed so after you buy them and pay someone to press them in then that $120 a pair may get closer to the $200 then you think ;)

Don't go the JC route. I tired that on my '65 and the springs are the weakest things I've ever used, they do great for 6 monthes and then lose their strengh. The price is about 120 a pair I think.

i second the pass on the JC whitney, the Espos are better quality and are matched better. my '64 valiant has JC's that were a little "off" in the arch, about a 1/2" difference in height on one side... so i had them re-arched to match 'em up...

I got the heavy duty, 5 leaf , JC springs and they have worked out well. At first they were a little high, but after a year they settled into what appears to be an origional ride height. I got regular bushings from Nappa.

My old bushing turned out to look bad from the outside but on the inside to be OK so I think you can even re-use the old bushings if you can't find any. Put some of the white silicon grease on them though when you re-assemble.

I just got 5 leaf from espo with front bushings installed $120 pair. Ride height looks great. On my 66 Dart.
