I screwed in the oil pan tube and followed the instructions in my Haynes manuals. It says to screw it in until it gets tight and then measure 1 and 1/8 inch from a the edge of the screen housing to a straight edge running out of the block next to the oil pickup tube. Anyways since I have confused you. I did this and test fitted the oil pan and it makes contact with the screen housing. So I bent the tube slightly to allow the pickup tube to clear the bottom of the pan. How critical is the placement of the pickup in the bottom of the pan? My guess is it's not that critical as long as it's close to the bottom of the pan. Thoughts please.

yeah I'd love any additional critical pickup info also.

I've always placed them as close to the bottom of the pan as possible with the pickup being parallel to the pan.
