I think the limited race or choosen race idea has promise. It gives guys that do not have the finances or vacation time each year a chance to run for the championship.( 10 races means at least 10 days of vacation or more) Do you think it is a fluke that the points championship comes down every year to the two or three guys that have travelled to all of the races? Having to choose to count the race before it is run means that all races would count( for some maybe not all in attendance) and would give everyone a fair chance. You would get to decide at which races you felt lucky or maybe just the four you were able to attend.

Bob i think the top six points leaders for the last few years have tried to get our show to as many events as possible. If they do not show up it takes a lot away from our series. Our promoters want to see a good show and we do it at our best. So the top six point racers are going to the four races but what happens if say three choose a early race . With the cost of going racing why should i go say to Wilksboro when all i could gain is 1 point or Pittsburg or St louis. Or do i decide to spend the money and go to mokan and not go to the other races. Not many racers are going to commit to 5 races but if you can not gain any points what happens to the other races. To be honest there are about 12 racers that commit to to go and spend more money than they know they can not
get back . This is the backbone of our series so think about changing the rules this drastic

Here are the final points standings and the number of races each attended.

D. Rose - 8
R.Hargis - 8
R. Parker - 6
M. Jeffery - 4
R. Hamby - 5
N. Foster - 5
J. Davis - 3
J.Drake - 3
M. Reese - 3
T. Drake -3

Seymour also attended 6. This shows Dale and Rons point of how the series is support mostly by the top 6 racers(and seymour). Only three racers dropped any points.

We had six different winners this year out of 9 races.

We had 24 people that only attended one race.

I would go to more races, but they are just so far away. In 2001 and 2002, I attended 4 races. In 2003, only three, due to a death in the family at the time of the Wilkesborro race. This year, only Wilkesborro. Money was just too tight to do a lot of traveling. The choice was Wilkesborro, because it was the largest purse. I would still like to see a race in south, or central Georga, or north Florida.

I just spoke to "Tony" at Hensley Performance. He told me their race at Bristol, has been set for the 1st weekend of June 2005. This would leave Memorial day weekend open for a race at the Mopar meet at Reynold Ga. Iwould sure like to see this happen. The promoter, has stated in the past, "he would like to have the slants there".

That would make three weekends in a row. Columbus, Reynolds and Bristol. Is that the type of schedule we really want to consider? Would everyone support three weekends of travel in a row?

There is also talk that the Bristol event might have the same show promoter as the St.Louis Monster Mopar weekend. He seems to be branching out with a possible show/race at Pittsburg.

"There will be a FIVE race Mopar series in '05.

Mopars at the Strip - April 1, 2, 3
new Monster Mopar Indy May 20, 21, 22
Bristol, Tennessee -- June 3, 4, 5
Pittsburg, PA comfirmed, late June date being negotiated.
Monster Mopar, STL -- Sep 9, 10, 11"

It is not necessary to go to all the races on the schedule. I would not go to Columbus, would go to Reynolds, would consider Bristol. I know other slanters, that would not go to Columbus or Bristol, but would consider Reynolds.

I do not have the time or money to make nine plus races a year. That is why I have not attended any races in the past. Until you guys come up with a way to limit the number of races I would have to attend to be competitive then I will stay home and race my local track. From the tone in the newsletter over the past year the attendance has been falling off. If you do not find a way to attract new people then the "backbone" will be the only ones showing up. Maybe that is what you want but it will not lead to the series becomming bigger or better. The less travel I have to commit to the more likely I would be to make plans to attend. Four to five races a year is realistic and espiecially with a nice mopar show. Makes for a nice weekend and I would definetly plan some vacation time but nine is not possible for me.

We sure get a lot of big ideas from people who have never spent one dime to attend a single Slant Six race. In my opionion if you dont even try to race with the Slant Sixers you dont have a vote to change anything about the series.

I think we need to listen to the ideas of those who have not been to a race. We need to find out what it will take to get them to a race, and if feasable, impliment it. It's the only way the series will grow.

I've never entered a Slant Six race, although I've seen a few. If its one thing I believe will cause difficulty will be constantly trying to tweak the rules to make everybody get what they want. I endured this sorta thing with the NMCA. Without going into a long story, it just seems to aggrivate everybody instead. Let the rules and proceedures stand and let everyone come to them, and if you're good enough, you'll go rounds. I hope to make a few races late in the season with my Slanter project. RICK p.s. I thought the coolest thing I saw at the dragstrip this year was standing at the 1000' mark, watching Ol' Dale reeling in cars with big head starts!!!

I notice the Pittsburgh race is not on the schedule in the new Slant 6 racing newsletter. Is it definitely out for 2005?? I thought 12 cars was pretty good for a first time event. I was hoping it would return this year and grow some more.
