It's been so long ago I don't remember which kits or specifics about the installation (but the '68-'72 application had to be a misprint, columns changed in 1970 when the ignition switch was relocated there), but I can assure that in my case, I did install it correctly using whatever was supplied in the kit. The only thing I distinctly remember was that my hazard switch (knob) prutruded a bit too far, and I trimmed it back carefully to be more in line with the column housing.
