Post subject: Change 3 speed to auto ?

If I change out a 3 speed in a 68 truck to an automatic 904, do I need to change the drive line or are splines the same? Thanks

The "rule of thumb" is that the 3 speed and the 904 share the same spline counts on the output yoke and the A833 and 727 share the same spline counts on the output yoke .

But as with most things mopar, you really don't know until you try it out. As parts bin engineering has been known to happen.

If this were a dart or volare I would say yes, but I do not know if the same light duty 3 speed is used in a truck. Also I would check to see if the tailshaft lengths and mouting points for the crossmember are the same.

Anyone else done work like this on a 68-71 Truck ????????

Measure from the back of the engine to the trans cross member mounting point, that will be good information to have.
Does the rear of the trans sit on top of a frame cross member in a 68 truck? (Some trucks / van transmissions were "hung" in different ways)
