MOTOR APART FOR REBUILD, POWERDYNE SUPERCHARGER AND ALL PARTS FROM MUSTANG, OFFENHAUSER 4BL INTAKE, 6 TO 1 POWERCOATED HEADER, 904 TRANNY WITH REVERSE MANUAL VALVEBODY, 462 GEARS IN THE REAR AND 9"SLICKS. GOING IN THE OLD 73 DUSTER I STARTED WITH. MY BIG QUESTION IS I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SUPERCHARDED MOTORS. GIVE SOME FEEDBACK ABOUT PISTONS, COMPRESSION, AND CAMS. THANKS.

I am not the expert, but less compression=more boost
Boost makes more power than compression.
Cam with less overlap, and more exhaust flow.
Ask the cam grinder for a blower grind...
What is a powerdyne? is it a centrifugal?

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I believe that is a centrifugal supercharger. Probably your best bet, and I think Tom Drake will back me up here, is to call COMP cams techline and talk with them about a blower grind. Not too much overlap is important. Tom posted recently on the guy to talk to at COMP.

I am looking into a centrif superchg motor myself, and I will plan for 9:1 comp max, probably 8-8.5:1, and 12lbs or less of boost (change that with blower pulley ratios).

How fast do you want to go with the car, Norm?? You're around 3000lbs on the starting line, right? What kind of fuel do you want to run?

Lou

How about some kind of boost bleed valve?
So you set the desired boost, like a turbo´s wastegate, and get the pulleys to give you boost early, and keep it there with the valve?
I know bmw used them on the old turbo cars instead of the wastegate, but I think it would work on a centrifugal too.
Almost like a turbo, just without all the plumbing.

LOU I WILL MOST LIKELY RUN RACING FUEL. THIS WILL BE A SLOW PROJECT BUT HE IS EXCITED ABOUT GETTING STARTED. I THOUGHT ABOUT ORDERING A REBUILD KIT FROM PAW.

How much experience does he have driving?

Do you realize how fast this car will be with 8-10# of boost?

Start with a MP cam. Since you will not be making 20# of boost the MP cams will be fine. The 244 cam ran 6.50's in the Simca on 14# of boost. Weighed 2315. Even weighing 3000# the duster could pontentially run low 7's with the right gear and set-up. Get a good ported head and run stock internals. Plan to keep boost under 12# and everything should be fine.

In the rank of Certifigul blowers, Powerdyne is close to the bottom. I doubt that it will make more the 5lbs of boost. This is a design limitation of the Powerdyne.

With this universal pulley it should make between 9-11psi depending on what application yours was made for...car or truck?

Tom where can i purchase the cam you refer to MP244. Should i just order a stock rebuild kit with pistons and rings, bearings and purchase the cam else where. He has no experience in drag racing but i plan on taking it slow with him. He is seventeen and weighs in at 136Lbs. This trying to build a engine is all new to me so i will be asking a lot of questions.

Your only hope is to find one on Ebay, or someone on her, or call compnaies like Mancini and hope they still have one on the shelf. Be sure and check the oil holes in the cam for proper alignment.

Comp has cams listed in their catalog(as a stock item) that is really close to the MP cam. Might give them a look also. I believe they only show two slant six cams and either one should work with no problem.

What pulley do you currently have with the SC?

The cam choice for a supercharger is differant then for a turbocharger. A turbo needs a short duration, small overlap, high lift cam while the supercharger is the exact opposite. Contact a cam manufacture and discuss your needs with them.

I think any onf these stock cams or even the comp cams would work fine for a supercharger running 8# of boost or less. Would not be the most efficient but would still be very fast and work fine.

If you want a custom designed cam to get every last once of HP out of it then call Comp and talk to Derek. He is the one tech that seems to know the most about boosted applications.

Contact SlantSixDan--we've got a plan to possibly start offering the MP244 cam to people that want it.

Are you going to grind new cams, or have you found a box full of them?
Good thing anyway!
