Post subject: SSRN Street Car Champion
PostPosted: Thu Feb 24, 2005 9:59 am
After several conversations with Seymour, Tom Drake, Dennis [Slantzilla] and others, Seymour told me OK if we could handle the logistics . There would be a street car champion awarded at our banquit. There is going to be some prize money and prizes for the champion. More on this later.
No one put anybody in charge so lets see if we can get this going .

RULES
Points system will stay the same, since a street car could win the national championship we need one set of rules. Who ever has got the most points at a SSRN events will be champion. You count your highest points gained at any four events.

WHAT IS A STREET CAR
1-The car must have a current tag and regesteration and they must match
2-D.O.T. approved tires must be used in compeition
3- Mufflers must be on the exhust system
4- Cars making the first elemination run and after must be in this configuration

We need your input on this it is a new concept and we want to have fun with it and try to encourage all racers to attend

Thanks Ron Parker

Why can't points calculations be special for the street champions. Obviously, the race rules MUST be the same due to such a small field of cars.

Here is my pipe dream. My local track holds "Friday night street wars" which are open to street cars thoughout the summer.

If I was able to convice them to let us run,a slant only bracket on any friday that we had x or more cars (perhaps 6?, I wouldn't know till I talked to someone) No prize money, just bragging rights.

Would it be concievable to get recognition in the Street car series for those who participate in such a local program? Maybe only 1 point or even a fraction of a point depending on finals. I doubt anyone could win just on 1 point races, but it might be a deceiding factor that gets some of the serious street guys involved at a local level to boost their numbers. The points would only apply to the street car championship.

This is starting to sound a lot like the regional ideas, so, sorry if I'm out of line with the suggestion. I really want to race this year!

There was a lot of discussion about this topic at the banquit.
Thanks Ron Parker

I'm all for it. Hopefully I can win a few more rounds in my streeters this year! I'll tell my "peeps" too - like Nathan Swanson, who went 3 rounds at NW in my Dart!

I think all of you guys need to go after this. There will be some nice prizes! Attend one or two races and I think you would stand a good chance at winning it! This is not going to be about fastest so you do not have to worry if you got an 18 sec ride!

Nathan, Brian M., Lou, Seymour, Nick and some others that showed up at Pittsburg race stand a good chance at this. Hope to see some of the internet guys maybe showing for a shot at the title.

I like the idea of trying to attract more "casual" racers to the events. But I would also like to see a more stringent set of rules for a STREET class. Such as: no turbos, blowers or nitrous and no fuel injection. Try to keep it close to factory appearing.

Just my two cents.

I really can't agree with that. Since this is bracket racing there is no real advantage to any of those items except maybe fuel injection (because EFI cars can be more consistent). We still want to foster diversity and engineering.

One thing I have always lobbied for though, nitrous cars that qualify with the joos on should have to dial within a tenth of the qualifying time. That keeps them from getting a better draw in the first round and turning the bottle off.

Thanks for the input we are open to all ideas.
We are trying to put something together for the first year and it could be changed after this year.
After all power enhanscers are allowed in our class of racing.
It would be hard to try to do a pure stock street class without any mods and enforce it.
So this is our best try at it in this year.
Stay Tuned for the Slant Six Street National Champion and prizes.
Thanks Ron Parker.

" Guest" - Since this is a bracket race and not a heads up race then why worry about how fast some else is or what is on their car? It all about consistency and predictability not who runs the fastest.

Please put a name on your post so we know who is who.

I do agree with Dennis and Lou - if you use the juice to qualify then you should use the juice to race. Everything listed above (except NOS) has been offered by car companies on new cars a warranted. Why would anyone have a problem with some showing up with a slant with any of these things on it?

Tom

I have to agree with the power adder idea. If you qualify with it you should race with it (unless it broke or whatever)

On the Pure Stock thing... I don't see that being very successful in the Slant 6 category. Muscle Cars have it because they were deliberately built to perform as "pure stock". Slant 6s were not.

Most of the guys that are going to come out and race with us are going to have upgraded and modified their cars for the most part. If someone wants to race a "Pure Stock" Slant 6 car, that's great. Be proud of your accomplishments with what you can do with what the factory gave you. Cecil I think has a car that would fit that bill.

If there winds up being enough interest (and participation) in a pure stock type format, then we can add it.

Rob

Well if you stick to stock stuff...no stroking,no porting the head...etc then it might be difficult bbbuuuttt 252ci and a good head and you might surprise a lot of people.

Go for it Doug.

Doug, I think you could do it. Back in the 70's, my 65 Val 2dr post, could turn mid 16's. This was a legal NHRA stocker. Car weight was 2530 lbs. with a 170 auto. This was before the days of bigger cams. The cam had to have stock lift and duration, corect carb, stock rear, etc. We were allowed slicks, high stall converters, headers, and "blueprinting. I think Merril Brunner, was also running 16's with his IHRA stocker about the same time.
Use a early "A" body, with a 225 engine, I think it could be done. Especially if you considered a super six "stock", in a earlier/lighter car.
