drag racing = expensive

If you start out slow, you want to go quicker.

Not that I wouldn't want to go, unfortuneately all the races seem to be states away and I can't get out to them.

My list of upgrades(in order of how I want to do them)

*fuel injection(actively persuing)
*16 inch rims and low profile tires all around
*Rear discs
*upgrade from the small discs to the large front discs
*Koni or like adjustable front and rear shocks

After that I will have a bonified four door sports car with the speed of a turtle (currently my car's got front and rear swaybars and .99 torsion bars, with stock 14 inch tires it's still no slouch when it comes to handling).

In short, thanks departed .com and .org, you're information is making me spend a fortune on my $300 car

Once you start getting into custom parts it cost the same to build any engine. I could hae built a nice big block for the price of my slant.

I'd bet you could build a smallblock Chevy cheaper than you could build up a slant(I'm talking high-end builds that make you really quick). There are a ton of bolt on kits for the smallblocks, to really make horsepower with the slant there's a lot of custom fabrication.

My guess is that when someone builds up a slant they have a greater desire to be different than to have a lot of speed, someone that builds up a V-8 wants to be quick but doesn't care about being different as much.

I can't believe there isn't any slant six racing in Washington, I see so many old Mopars on ebay that are in Washington. I've also seen several posts from people in washington state. Somebody out there really needs to get something organized. (hint hint)

I like the slant six people! Yes, all out racing with a slant six can get expensive, but I can get started with an $800, 19 second car and not get laughed off the track. Instead I get encouragement and suggestions.

Some of the friends I've made have offered me affordable used parts as they upgrade. We stick together and help each other out, because it's fun to get faster every year. I enjoy a little fabrication now and then and I like that I can be part of the group without 10 years of experience.

That's why I do it. It is much more satisfying to have a 12 second Slant street car than a 12 second 340 Duster.

When I am at the track with my buddy who has an 11 second 383 Demon race car, I will have 10 people come and look at my old Valiant for every one that looks at his race car.

I would have to agree with Dennis. Definitely draws a lot of attention. Everytime we would take the Simca out( especially TnT night) people would be crowded around looking it over and asking questions. The most popular questions was "Why" and the second was "Who made that motor?". Truth be told we got less attention at Mopar meets than we did at Bracket races and IHRA races...never could explain that.

I like different. Anyone can build a 10 sec BB(1/4) but how many people can say they have a 10sec slant 6?(or 9)

Same goes for road racing. Every time I have had my '64 Dart out, it gets lots of questions and goofy looks, and plenty of thumbs up!

There aren't many into slants in Washington, I see a few people pop up every so often from the Seattle area, and I believe one person lived/was think of moving to Spokane. A slant six race here would maybe consist of four people to start out with(there are a lot of slants in Washington, just no modified ones or people that think they're anything worth making quick). A race over here would grow with time, and I would make time for a race over here, but personally... I wouldn't have time to actually help organize a race over here. Does anyone know if there are any majorly quick slants up in this state?

Someone has managed to get into the 9's with a slant? I thought the fastest ones were in the 10 second range.

Dave Mueller has a super trick wagon that runs 11's.
Charles Meyer, the Cox Brothers, and the Drakes have all run in the 9's. Mike jeffrey has gone 10:05@130 at Kearney.

I live near Portland Oregon and I travel to Spokane once in awhile

I got to say(is drag racing expensive) ....Yes...But as far as I
know I am the only person that drive around with A street /6 race
car here and that my friend is Sweet and when I race 5.0's and
thay find out that thay were beat by a 6cyl. Now that is priceless!!!

Yes Drag Racing can be Expensive, but if you use your head and keep your eyes open you can find /6 stuff cheap. I dont have a pile of money in my 72 swinger and it runs mid 15's on 14" street tires. There are always guys at swap meets getting rid of cams and intakes, and I must say there is nothing that gets as much attention as a nice dodge /6 with a hyper pak setup, that runs like a jack rabbit on steroids.
