Hello All,

Tell me if this seems reasonable for chrome replating... 5 pieces: the convertible holdowns, header cross section, and two verticals for a 65 dart at $840? Just about took the wind outta me but maybe this is market rate and I'm just clueless. If anybody knows of a place in the Northwest to have this done for less I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,
Ned

I imagine the cost of plating has gone up since I had my 65 Dart convert done. I paid about $1200 for both bumpers, 4 bumper guards, both door handles, both quarter panel letters, letters for the trunk lid, dodge emblem for the hood, all 6 fender/door louvers, the convert transition mouldings, the windshield header and both side pieces. That was in 1989 and it was #1 show chrome. I worked for an antique automobile restoration company at the time and the platers we used did nothing but concors plating. We're talking about Pebble Beach or Hershey winners here.

what is the general pricing for rechroming in the US?
$1200 wouldn't get me ONE bumper chromplated...

That must be some pretty expensive chrome plating there in Sweden. It might be less expensive to ship it back to the states to have it done.

For Ned - I would check around several places. Hemming Motor News always has ads for a bunch of chrome platers all over the country. For example, some people on the Imperial Mailing List swear by the Atlanta Bumper Exchange. Frankford Plating in Philly did my plating and it looks as nice now as it did when it was done in 89. One company that people both on the Imperial Mailing List and the 1962to1965 List say to avoid like the plague is Bumper Boyz out of CA.

I see most restorations around these parts get sent back to the us, or sweden...
About 8 or 9 years ago I got a price of $130 for every 2 pounds of parts I want done, but only paint was cheap enough for me at the time(still is)

Supply and demand... there are hundreds of thousands hobbycars aruond and/or under restoration, but only a handful of specialists in rechroming...
