I would like to continue the discusion on F-M parts here. It came up on this thread http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12255

Dan, it looks like the old stock of felpro gaskets is ok, but a lot of the new stuff has "money taken out of the product". A lot of the later model engine, valve covers have molded gaskets and grommets for the hold down bolts. The last couple of sets, I have purchased, just came with the gasket. The grommets have to be purchased separtly. Of course the parts house does not have them in stock, and has to order them from the warehouse. That means waiting an extra day to do the job. I don't remenber which engine, at this time, but I had to call the F-M district rep to even get the part number for the grommets to order them.

What about the Moog upper control arm bushings, that allow additonal camber adj? Does any one else have these?

Well, then Im in deep sh**.

The 5124 rear axle shaft seals are the only ones made that fit properly, and theyre made by National. CR may or may not make an equivalent, but all seals listed by application for the 7&1/4" rear are garbage, except the National seal.

Id better snap up a few pairs to hold me over until I finally get a front loader together for it.

If it works and your happy with the national seal, why change? Just because one product is poor, does not mean they all are.

believe me I have gone through all the other brands and they look nothing like the original. The CR seal is way too tight on the shaft and the Dana/Spicer/whatever has a tiny lip on it. The National is the only ringer for the original. Problem is as you said, how long are the few FM parts that are any good going to remain that way, if the corporation doesnt collapse first.
