I want to put a posi rear in my 85 D-100. I would like to get one from a junk yard. Is their a way to tell just by looking if a rear is a posi or not. If I get the complete rear with axels and wheels. What years pick ups would be a straight bolt on job? Older or newer model years. I figure 1980 to 1986 or 87 should be the same. But what about other years

85 and up the wheel bolt pattern is larger than pre 85 but you can change axles brake backingplate and drums... i have 85 rear in my 82 with 82 backingplate brakes and axles....you can also just change carrier

AHEM!

We prefer to call that a "sure-grip" or "limited slip differential" (generic term) here! "Posi" or "positraction" is a shivvy term and will not be tolerated!

Interesting !!! :D I have a 1980 or 81 axle in my 1987 truck. (swapped out that 3.23 geared axle for a 3.55). I had to swap the '87 axles and brakes onto the early axle. Works grreeeaattt.

Any chance you still have the '85 axles and brakes? If yes, I suppose you are very far away from me because I want them.
