For decent handling and better road feel at a reasonable price, get KYB Gas-a-just shocks. $28/shock from summitracing.com.

kyb's are excellent, i use to have monroe shocks on my 70 valiant, felt like driving a lowered japanese tuner! Bumpy as a mofo

Ky's are and excellent choice!!!

PST also has them for $130 for all 4 - free shipping

summit $29 x 4 = 116 + $8 (shipping) = $124

If you have more to spend, I've also heard good things about the new Edelbrock IAS shocks (summitracing.com again), $70/shock. I plan on trying some this year.

I would stay away from the gabriel red something.
They feel just like the 23 year old shocks I took off.

I agree about the cheap gabriel shocks. I just installed a set of them on my duster and felt no improvement over the old stock shocks.

Napa brand gas charged premium shocks. $20 a piece and work great.

Ditto on the Gabriels (they're called Red Ryders).....we sell them at work and they pretty much suck. The old, dented-up Monroes I took off of my car were more firm than those things. :(

I have the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my Dart front and rear and I have been happy with them for quite a few months now. They were possibly the biggest handling improvement I've made so far. I also have .920" torsion bars and 6-leaf rear springs, so these shocks were necessary to keep me from bouncing off the road. I'd say with the addition of these shocks alone, I can go 15 to 20 mph faster on an exit ramp!

Monro Gas-matics work well for me. I've had a set on my Satellite since I got it in '97 and are still nice and firm, giving a nice, well controlled ride.

Read my post on Ballout's shock inquiry for the '68 Dart. I would not put anything but the Edelrock AIS on my cars now. I wish they had applications for my later front wheel drive vehicles.
