This horse is beyond dead. It's decomposing and full of maggots. (puke on the keyboard)

Aha! I recall that that particular discussion started when I posted that MSD or capacitive discharge units burns out "hot" spark plugs, wich I experienced and SSD posted that "it ain't true". juan
Speaking objectively here (do you believe me? ) using plugs of an incorrect heat range (too hot) would be a far more likely cause of roasting electrodes. If the conduction rate of the plug is insufficient, the electrode overheats and roasts. You also get preignition. Too cold a plug and it fouls. I doubt it had anything to do with the rest of the ignition system. Maybe it was the way he said it that steamed you.

That's entirely possible. I'm not always the shrinkingest violet in the garden. Sometimes I'm downright strident!

 No, but a new forum may be in order. Im going to field it in the members section and see what the reaction is. Other forums have done it with success.

Blah blah blah...

I think a lot of people get their feelings hurt by SlantSixDan (and a few others) because he is right a lot of the time and isn't afraid to call 'em as he sees 'em. I don't always agree with him, but I do respect him and his opinion, he is a learned scholar of Chrysler. That's coming from someone who prides himself in vetting out bullshitters. If someone's making you feel stupid, far from being offended, you should feel glad to have the opportunity to learn, even if you think the person is dead wrong. ...bet it makes you think, either way. Let your mindset be challenged and grow.

Ha! SSD! you made me laugh, man!
steponmeboom, I believe what you're saying and what dan said in his way. But you have to agree that points=MSD without any further clarification can steam anybody, huh? :)
On other matter, I don't dislike SSD. I like him a lot 90% of the time, then the other 10% he got me scuffin dirty words and pisses the hell of me, not for making me realize I'm not in the right track or making anybody else this, but for his untempered maneers.

Anyway, I have to confess that sometimes I just go for SSD throat 'cuz I'm sooooo alike him when it comes to talk out something I feel is wrong that gets up my nerve.

Dan, Dennis, steponme, all whom are readng this
don't believe in "going to chuck and dough", I think that we all are grown ups and can solve this thing this way.

To end my participation (yeah, I know, Dan, I told that earlier in this same thread, :) ) on this thing, I'll say that I respect SSD as some kinda father. His knowledge is great not only when it comes to mopar but many other subjects. Is the giant not wanting to be gentle what I don't dig about him. The end.

Okay getting back to the riser topic

At whatever times the flapper is opened to the max, it looks to me like the dead space created changes the heat from forced air to radiated. In the meantime theres ambient air pouring in through the carb.

Woiuldn't that actually srve to cool the manifold floor slightly, therefore slightly condensing the intake charge to enhance power?

If true, then a high load situation would tend to magnify this effect?

Also I always thought the the triple plane intake manifold design was pretty cool. Its almost like Chrysler tried making these motors behave like a diesel more than a gas motor

Dan, you keep chipping in with your knowlege. Obviously you have been through repair classes and got to learn theory on just what Chrysler was thinking when they designed the motor and wrote the repair manuals.

That knowlege will then enable you to deviate from the book to tune for local prevailing conditions. Thats pretty cool I think.

Man did I ever ask the wrong question. I never in a million years ever thought I would stir up this much emotion about anything. I only removed it because it was frozen up and I couldn't unfreeze it. I can get another exhaust manifold with a working riser. I swear to the slant gods that I will never do it again.

I have a run on problem and was thinking it was related to heat in some way. The things I did was to change over to a 2 bll intake, got a exhaust manifold off ebay because my old one broke trying to separate it from the 1 bll intake ( heat riser was stuck as mentioned which I knocked out), removed the air pump which was rusted beyond repair, removed the vacume amplifier, had new 2 1/4 exhaust installed with a flow master muffler and installed a manual choke.

My truck starts fine, runs fine and stops fine. It just wants to keep going when I switch it off.

I appoligise for all the comotion and ill feelings attributed with this post, I had no idea the heat riser was such a heated topic.

I'll be the first to agree that I'm not the smatest brick in the wall, but to call someone dumb or retarded for trying, is just down right cruel and insensitive.

By the way this is the info on my carb: THE HOLLEY NUMBER IS 64 -1188 AND THE CARTER NUMBER IS 8110S
