I am trying to get all my ducks in a row to do my super six conversion on my manual shift 85 D-150. I have the Carter BBD and intake manifold. With the manifold came the bracket to attache the throttle cable. Will the original cable that was in the truck work or will I need a longer or shorter one?

Shorter. A V8 cable may work fine for you, and would be easy to find in the yards. If not, you'd need to find a 2bbl \6 truck cable.

Thanks. The manifold also came with a short cable. It looks like it may be too short though. I believe it came out of an Aspen or Volare. Finding a cable in a junk yard around here may be a problem. I don't think they keep old Dodge pick ups too long before they crush 'em. And finding a 2bbl six pick up would be even harder. Is there any way to shorten what I have?

Yeah, a car cable will certainly be too short (though I find myself wondering if maybe a car 1bbl cable might work with a 2bbl in a truck.)

www.car-part.com is a great tool for chasing down used parts nationwide. They won't have a search entry for "throttle cable", but if you think about it, you can home in on vehicles that have the powertrain you're after by searching on other parts (intake manifold, for instance), then calling up the resultant yards and asking if they have what you need.

I was able to reuse the cable from the 1bbl setup with both my 85 truck and my 80 aspen.

Loop the cable and zip-tie it to itself. This causes a noticable tightness to the pedal feel, but does not bind or restrict. Takes a moment to get used to, but turns out to be a good counter for my lead foot.

I don't know how long it will last like that, both of mine have only been super sixed for a few months or less. Both are very drivable at the moment.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try to find what I need through carparts and such but until I do, I'll try the cable loop and wire tie trick.

Has anybody ever shortened a throttle cable by cutting it and reattaching the end. Can this be done?
