i am burning a half quart of oil every gas fillup. my motor was totally rebuilt 3,000 miles ago. on first test run the mechanic who rebuilt it said it appeared the oil pump was bad and he had to take the motor back down and send the block out for machining again. my son thinks that when and if the cylinders were honed again that the pistons are not sealing well because of the larger size of the cylinders due to the additional honing. your opinions please. i sent 3200 dollars on this motor rebuild and i am beginning to think i was not told something.

do a dry and then a wet comp test. That should tell you about your rings status. Did you rebuild your head? maybe valvle guides, but half a quart is way too much for valvle guides. Can you be more specific about "every gas fillup"? 2 months? 200 miles? give us a time/distance frame. Do you know exactly how much overbored the block is? is your plugs fouled? with that kinda oil consumption you must be smoking oil like hell... of not, let's find the leak (rather say the HOLE)

Does it make any strange sounds on startup like piston slap?
