hi.. just bought a 67 dart 270 4 door slant 6 225.
sat for 2 years on top of a mountain.
hope i did right by taking out the plugs, and spraying in some deep creep sea foam in the cylinders.
after replacing cap, rotor, plugs, points, and condenser it fired up.
cylinder 3 wouldnt fire no matter what. gas was getting to it, and so was spark. lifting off the valve cover showed that # 3 cylinder intake valve wasnt opening due to the pushrod (unbent), and the lifter kicked sideways resting out of place in the block. stress cracks were evident at the top of the pushrod where the tappet rests its ball. got it all back in order quickly, but, is this a common problem? and after seting the valve lash at .010 in, and .020 out, should i worry about this happening again?
runs good now, except it will cough badly unless the gas pedal is applied gently. carb rebuild kit take care of this?
thank you for the read, and great site!

Welcome onboard.

Yeah, stuck valves can cause all kinds of pushrod mayhem. No real reason to believe it will happen again unless you leave the car atop another mountain for another 2 years. Yes, a thorough carb rebuild will probably help the stumble situation.

so a valve stuck from sitting open for years dropped a pushrod when the cam lobe lowered, and kicked the lifter out of its hole on its next rise... i think i got it. i feel lucky that the lifter rested sideways in its hole preventing the pushrod from falling down in and getting chewed up.
