Guys, does anyone know if there is a noticeable length difference between the pre and post 73 tie rod ends? I know that they are different (different P/Ns too) but a friend is buying new ones and wants to know *how* different. I guess the price difference is substantial: $40 for the early, $10 for the later model.

Just curious

MJ

I couldn't find the real difference, so I punted. I ordered C-body (11/16") tie rod parts. A little more than the '73-'73 parts, less than the early parts.

I went to the parts warehouse, on Friday, and compared the different tie rod ends.
Moog numbers,ES401R&L, for the 70-76 "A" body. ES319R&L for the 62-90 "A" body, and the ES352R/ES355RL for the "C" body, all have the same tapered stud. The "C" body ends have a 11/16 dia thread into the sleeve. They will all physically fit the steering arms and the drag link, however the ES401L&R have the "shank" at a different angle to the joint body. It is possible by substituting any of the other parts for the ES401L&R, the joint could be put into a bind at the extreams of suspension/steering movement.

Lou, did you notice this different angle, and was there any problem with the joint being at the extream end of it's range of it's movement?
