My slant has been sitting awhile. When I went to start it, the keywould not turn. I fiddled with it a bit, and got the key to turn, and then the battery was dead. So, after jump starting it from my other Dart, I drove it awhile, and when I turned the key off, the engine ran on. I mean, it acted as if the key was still turned to run. I tried turning it several times. I banged on the dash (the switch is in the dash), and it finally stopped. I'm thinking, maybe this is why the battery went dead. Maybe? Anyway, I am now wondering if this behavior can be attributed to sitting for awhile, or is the switch dying? Can I squirt some WD-40 into it, and get it going again, or is it in it's final throes?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with it. You can get a brand new one from Year One or one of the other resto places. Probably reuse your lock cylinder, or get a new one of those too (or even with matching door locks).

If the switch is for the 69, it should be available from any parts store.

Good tip Charlie! Do you think the switch is dying? What do you think is going wrong? Is there a contact that has come loose, and moving around inside? The problem with the tumblers seems to have fixed itself. It seems to be turning OK now, so I am wondering if the switch is going to heal itself with use. Last night I started the car, and it failed to turn off the first time, but after repeated turnings, it started working, and then did not fail again that evening. I had just the reverse problem on my other Dart. It would not provide power to the ballast resister once in a blue moon, when in the crank mode, (I believe that is the brown wire). Anyway, I bypassed the the ignition switch with a temporary contact toggle switch that I can flip up to start the car. I thought that was easier than taking the steering column apart. This kind of problem seems to be associated with letting the cars sit for awhile.
