I am looking to pull the 904 Torqueflite out of my 225 c.i. slant six 71 Dodge Challenger and replace it with a standard shift. Will a b/e body A833 trans bolt up to a slant six bellhousing? Reason I ask is because I got one out of a '70 'Cuda parts car. I like the slant WAY too much to get rid of it and install a v8. I just want to be able to shift my own gears! Any help is appreciated.

P.S. - I also need the slant six bellhousing, flywheel, z bar, and z bar mounts to make this work! Please help! A header or crack free exhaust manifold would be nice too!

Thanks,
Ted

You find a slant 6 bellhousing from an early A (64-66) which will be cast iron OR from a late A with the 4 speed overdrive (aluminum). I would guess the flywheel could be obtained from the same donor. Dollars to donuts your Z Bar and related items will need to come from a manual transmission Challenger/Cuda ($$$$). You might try Brewers or Passion POerformance for your parts.

The z-bar will have to come from a slant equipped e-body. The small block bar is the wrong lenth. The bellhousing is a little harder. The 833 od trans has a larger bearing retainer (5.125 methinks) than the normal 833. I think I recall someone mentioning a shim to counter this but I don't remember the details. Of course you will need all the pedal/dash reinforcement and associated brackets used on the manual trans cars. I used to have a 72 challenger with slant and 3m trans and it was quite a challenge figuring out what parts went where since it was apart when I got it and all the parts were mixed with v8 clutch components. good luck

I think I likely still have another spare z-bar that I will never use the problem is that even if I could find it I can't id it without a length.

Hi Challenger. I have your bell housing. It is a slant six housing of aluminum. I used it for years behind slant, and it worked well. It has the larger bearig retainer opening for the OD 4 spd. I will sell it for $50 plus S/H. E-mail me at spowell786@aol.com

Ok, I had been meaning to check out my 3-speed E-body to help this guy out before I saw this post. If mcnoople is still watching this post I can measure the length of my z-bar and see post the length tonight to help this guy out. There must have been some confusion when I posted earlier saying I would check my setup to help him find compatible parts because i have received three e-mails from this guy wanting to buy my 3-speed parts..which currently arent for sale.

By the way mcnoople your 72 didnt get sold to a younger guy in Springfield Il did it? Just curious if I have your old car.

Bohmer2 if your car is b3 petty blue it probaly is my old car. It was an odd color If you want it I still have the original am radio for it. That car is where I got most of my perf slant parts. When I got it it had a bt 833 in the trunk and offy 4bbl headers in the engine bay.
