I was watching an auction for "good condition" K-H brakes on eBay and see they sold for $270 plus $80 shipping. Is that price really in line as to what they're worth? I know - worth is subjective. If so maybe I should put a couple of sets up for auction as well as my pair of NOS rotor/hub assemblies.

NOS are a whole different story, those the 100point car people will pay a premium for - I recall an NOS KH rotor going for 200 or so EACH alone on ebay before.

270... for a complete setup with useable rotors and calipers, yea I'd say thats about right. Otherwise, I'd say $100 for the spindles & splash sheilds max then everything else is availible aftermarket/parts store. Chances are you won't find useable used rotors because you can only cut those 0.020" before they go out of spec.

The ad didn't say "useable" but "good condition". Of my 3 sets of K-H's 2 might be useable as far as the rotors go but have no idea of useability of the calipers. All the hard parts look to be in "good condition". I was just curious if others thought prices were in or out of line.

Well, let's do some maths:

Raybestos remanufactured calipers are $72.58 or $87.79—unloaded/loaded, respectively—plus a $30 core charge per, so that's about $210 or $236 per pair, including core charge. (Another option is A1 Cardone garbage for $101.79/ea plus $25/ea core charge)

New rotors from Raybestos or Wagner are $63.99/ea, so another $128.

New master cylinder'll run you about $55.

So to buy all this stuff new will ring the cash register up to about $400.

Assuming the seller is correct when he calls his used stuff "usable" (calipers rebuildable, rotors still have enough meat to be turned again at least once), all we're looking at is boot/seal kits at $14, pistons as necessary at $12/ea., pads at $20/set, and labor to clean up the calipers and turn the rotors.

(prices from www.rockauto.com )

Yeah, it all hinges on what "useable" means. The KH calipers I got from the wrecking yard were so seized up I had to use massive pliers to twist them out even after soakign w/pb blaster, and after pulling a few pistons the insides of the caliper and bottom side of the pistons were so pitted that it wasn't worth rescuing them. Really hard to judge useability until you actually take it all appart and look at it.

You can get replacment pistons seperately though if the calipers end up being good but dammaged pistons. Also the crossover lines between the caliper halves are availible new from all the companies that reproduce the fuel/brake lines.

I dont think your going to find the hubs at the parts store. The sbp K-H system used a two piece rotor/hub setup. You can get the rotors for $70 to $100 range new from parts store, but your not going to get a hub with that. I wouldn't see the point of buying spindles and backing plates with out hubs.
The later (73-up) big bolt pattern/single piston setup used a single piece cast rotor and hub, and yes those are cheap and available from the parts store.

As far as what they cost I can only tell you what I spent to do my swap.
$210 for complete used setup - disks were usable as is
$60 for shipping
$35 for pads
$40 for caliper rebuild kits ($20 x 2)
$40 for new rubber brake lines
$75 for the correct disc brake master cyl. (three different parts stores handed me a drum brake master cyl., telling me that the disk master had been superseeded. I went on-line and found the correct one but it cost a little more.
$40 for used brake vacume booster and mouting hardware from the j-yard.
$60 (i think) for new lower ball joints (they are different then drum joints, only in the size of the holes where they bolt to the spindle)
Total spent $560. but well worth it. It stops so much better now than with the 9 inch drums, and with much less pedal effort.

Ah yes I forgot about the hubs, that slipped my mind. I run a KH setup on my duster.

You have to be careful with used hubs too, check for spun races.

If it wasn't for having to get different rims and different rear axles I would of went with BBP discs. I have a feeling the next tiem I'm going to need KH rotors I won't find them and will be forced to go to the BBP discs. Maybe I should buy a backup set of rotors/calipers now while they are still availible.

The separate rotors are still available. I bought a pair from Advance Auto 6-7 months ago and are probably available from other sources as well - Rock Auto, Auto Zone, Napa. Since I'm going to run them on my 65 Signet convert and 65 Barracuda, I figured get them while I can.
