My Boss just bought a 67 D200 step van, it is 225 slant six powered, the body is made by Grumman out of aircraft aluminum.

The question is the transmission. it is a 4 on the floor 4 speed, it looks like it may have been a three on the tree once. The number stamped on the transmission is C96041. Does that mean anything? Trying to find out what it is so we can rebuild the clutch and possiblly the tranny (Makes a horrible noise when shifting). It does not have the long out put shaft of the A-833 (At least not like the pictures in the 4 speed article on this site).

is it a top loader, or does it have the shift levers on the side of the case.

if it is a 4 spd, with a "granny" or super low first gear it is probably a

NP 435. the super low first gear is NOT syncromeshed on this trans.

shifting to first before a compleat stop will cause all sorts of "horrorable"

noises. if you heep a NP435 full of lube it should be as indestructble as

the slant it is behind.

I the guy with the step van. I would to an automatic transmission. I understand that there are going be modifications to the drive shaft with kick down linkages, etc. My main concern is will the 225 mated with an automatic be too underpowered in this application.

My other option would be to install the 318 with an automatic transmission.
