Hi guys, just picked myself up a slant six powered Ute the other day (that's a pick-up for you US based guys) and I'm looking at using it as a Salt Lake racer while retaining the original slant engine.

My initial concerns revolve around the revability of the Slant engine and what kind of induction I can use on it. I've got a short runner two barrel set-up (alloy) manifold here but I'm leaning towards a triple weber EFI style set-up. I'd love to go Hyperpak but that just doesn't seem achievable given the relative rarity and expense of the manifolds.

What kind of RPM should I be able to see out of a 225 slant engine?

What kind of horsepower is reasonable to expact out of a NA 225 slant? and remember it can be as cranky as it like down low, I'm only concerned with WOT.

Does anyone know of any Salt Lake racing valiants out there and what kind of speeds they reached?

Back in the 1960s Wilford Day set some land speed records with 225 and 170 SL6 cars. I think he ran G & F Production classes and set records in the 145 to 148 MPH range.

Do the Aussie Slant 6's use the same oil pump as ours with an adapter to run the lines around to the other side?

As far as I know the oil pumps are the same but I could be wrong. So the oil filters sit on the other side on the US models? I guess they must sit where our steering boxes sit.

Wow, those taillights look like dead ringers for the 67 thru 69 Barracuda. I wonder if that right hand drive gives ya the coniptions until you get the hang of it!?? RICK

Well obviously we think that RHD is the "right" way to have it.

No probs at all from where we sit. But you're right the tail-lights do look kinda Barracuda-ish. Never noticed that before.
