Hello all,

Recently got my car back from the garage, they did an alignment for me after I installed a suspension kit.

Unfortunately, the mechanic (who had never worked on an A-Body before) set the torsion bars so low that the frame was resting on the rebound bumpers. Apparently this Chrysler garage had sold all their old manuals, and only had the specs for caster, camber, etc. The mechanic I hoped would work on it retired just last month, after 30 years with the company.

I just turned the bars up to get the suspension closer to the right height, but I set it at 1.5" instead of the 2.125" (I just bought the factory manual). The wheelwell clearance over the 215-70-15s looks better at this height.

Shouldn't the mechanic be able to set the camber properly without changing the torsion bar setting?

-Mac

Camber, caster, and toe will change some with ride height. You should take it back with it set to the height you want and have them realign it. Really, ride height setting is part of the alignment, so they should correct the settings for free.

The first thing to adjust during an alignment is the torsion bars.

Adjusting them after the alignmnet will change your alignment.

Step #1 for aligning ANY torsion-bar Mopar is "set the ride height."

All other settings vary slightly with ride height, so they should all be set AFTER the height is fixed. The variation with jounce and rebound is minor and normal, but you want the variation to be centered on the normal ride height.

The problem I see is that he set the ride height so low it was on the bumpers. That makes all the other settings useless from the start. I'd either go back and make them do it right or find another shop.
