Anyone bought seat vinyl / material from SMS Auto Fabrics?

I am interested in your experience as I am close to doing business with SMS.

The samples I received look great.

I was looking at purchasing from them when I bought the vinyl for the seats in my 63. The samples I received were close, but not exact to original. I'm assuming that this may have been due to production variances (possibly).

I was a bit skeptical about the service I received over the phone. After I received the samples and determined how much I needed of each, I wanted them to check their stock to see if they could supply it. They acted like it was going to be too much of a bother for them to check their stock and wanted my to place they order before they could verify for sure that they could supply it. They guy said he probably could, but would need to check to be sure. I had time scheduled with the upholsterer and needed to get the fabric by a deadline. The guy was like "sure I can overnight it for an extra cost, but I won't be able to tell you if it is available for about a week." Evidently he needed to drive to the warehouse to look. I also read a post somewhere cautioning on the quality.

However, that being said, this was a couple of years ago and their service may have changed. I was only put off by the service. But they really didn't seem interested in making a sale. Things may have changed and if you are happy with the sample and the price, you might want to give them a try. It’s not like this fabric is growing on trees so if you found what you are looking for, you may just want to get it.

I ended up getting my material from Original Auto Interiors.

John

Be really careful dealing with SMS; other Mopar guys have had very bad experiences with them.
