Sunday was rained out, so no fast 4.

Saturday afternoon was very good weather for racing after they got the track dried up from morning showers. I never got 2 time slips with similiar numbers, and my reaction times bite.

Don't have my time slips, but my runs where something like this:
trial 1: 18.86 I won't even admit to the reaction time
trial 2: 18.55 Nice, after some carb adjustment, but another .4 something light
trial 3: 19.6 Crud, the trans didn't like my 1-2 shift and I had to back off , but finally cutting a .178 light, still weak.

.31 is a big change, I dialed a 18.55 first round and ran 18.66. Lou had plenty of room to take the win, as his car was running strong. I think he was all over the brakes after passing me around the 3/4 mark.

Seymour let me know about my need for some practice saying:
Quote:
You don't deserve to win with reaction times like that.
After Charlie knocked me out of second round of footbrake as I broke out by only .001 on a .325 light.

Everyone was very friendly and it was sad to have to part ways after so much fun. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions, swapped stories, and offered me food. This is the best bunch of people you could ever want to meet.

I made it home in 9.5 hours, but stopping several times to add fluids and let things cool down. My motor is now making some noises that don't sound good  , but after 22+ hours on the road this weekend, this old slant six will be retired in favor of one with better compression. I think i still got close to 20 mpg highway.

Not bad for a 33 year old short block, but weak oil pressure, excessive blowby and overheating require the retire, hopefully replacing it this week so I can be ready for N. Wilkesboro.

Wish you could have been at Clay City. Thanks your racing buddy Possum :D :D

So, I guess the "Phoenix" Simca didn't rise again at Clay City then since I didn't see any mention of any of the Drake's being there.

Also no mention of Dale Rose again. What's up with that? Is it gas prices, slow/too much RV business, car down for upgrades, lost interest, what?

Another one of the "Paradise Gang" I've been wondering about is Oscar Derrick. Has anyone kept up with him after his move to FL (?) ?

I don't think anyone will be seeing any of the GodsRods kids at any Slant 6 events after all. One of them has my V8 Dart to drive and just got an SRT/4 and the other boy has the enthusiasm, but not enough know how or support to get the Duster ready to race again. They were the two main gearheads in the group. At least I was able to win them over to the Mopar camp and away from Chebbies, Furds, & Hondas!

Hope y'all are doing well. I'm looking forward to the North Wilkesboro update coming up next.

Good to hear from you, Rob. People were asking how you were doing at CC and send well wishes. You'll just have to resurrect the Duster when you get back, eh?

Drake's swear they'll be at NW. Dale was supposedly putting a ProCharger on his Arrow...

Thanks Lou,

I remember Tom saying they would try to make Clay City with just some low boost to start working the bugs out again. Too bad they didn't make it.

I had heard about Dale and the ProCharger, so I wondered if that was the deal or not. I figured he would still go to Clay City with one of his other cars just to hang out with the gang.

Yeah, the Duster will hopefully still be sitting there when I get back. It's disappointing that the kids aren't able to keep going with it. I just didn't have enough time to get them where they needed to be before I left I guess. Too many dreams and not enough time, money, or sense to get there. Hopefully someday!

Give everyone my best and let them know I'm thinking about them and would much rather be there than here!
