I needed to remove my station wagon specific side glass to repair rust under the weatherstripping. I now need to reset the glass, and have received the "universal" type material from Laysons. Has anyone else dealt with resetting the cargo glass in a 63-66 Dart or Valiant wagon? Any tips/advice? What suppliers did you use for the weatherstripping?

Oof. Before I wasted time and spilled blood messing with "universal" rubber weatherstripping, I'd beat the bushes for proper, moulded replacement wagon glass gaskets, even if it meant long-distance shipping. Spectrum Rubber in Australia may well have them. Their website is garbage, but if you call them (remember the time difference) and tell them you've got a "1965 AP6 Valiant wagon" they can send you a lengthy list of what they have for it, as well as answering whether they can supply the wagon cargo area glass seals.

Great Dan. I will be dealing with this issue soon and Laysons says it's the correct type Weatherstripping (with the lock strip), but is glued. I had my doubts also as to fit.

I did a serious search for the gasket for my rear window on my 63 valiant. I was about to get some of the universal glue together stuff when my body guy suggested to try and restore the original (the sales person at Layson’s also suggested this). I use some Mothers back to black and some soap and water and was able to bring the gasket back to life.

So if yours hasn't been seriously damaged, you may want to give a thorough cleaning a try before you spend mega bucks on something that is not going to look original anyway.

Thanks for the information. I could kick myself for letting my glass guy cut apart the old weatherstripping! I hired a "professional" because I didn't want to break the glass.

Here y'go; Blue Star Spares has got it. Price is in Australian dollars, looks like it's for the pair, and looks like it includes the filler/locking strip. Even given the long-distance shipping, I've had excellent results with Blue Star Spares' stuff, see Here, Here, and Here. Graeme Jenkinson runs the joint and knows his stuff. The AP5-AP6-VC wagon models mentioned are equivalent (and use all the same sheetmetal aft of the cowl) to US '63-'65-'66 Valiant wagons, respectively. You'll probably want to send an e-mail confirming that these are the 1-piece seals I think they are. You may also want to browse through his catalogue online and stock up on other stuff that's tough to get, as long as you're shipping a box. Hey, how 'bout venetian blinds for the quarter glass on your wagon?

BlueStar did some searching for the gasket I needed. They didn't have it but I was pleased enough with their service and effort that I would have bought from them first if they had what I needed.

Be careful -- there are at least two Valiant parts places in Australia calling themselves "Blue Star Spares". The one I pointed to is the real one.
