Please modify your post so that the images actually show up here. The way to do that is to use the [img] tag, like this:

I've added spaces to the [img] tags above so that they show up as plain text; the actual tags have no spaces in them.

Not all the truck/van Slants were yellow, and when somebody's doing-up their own vehicle, there's no such a thing as the "wrong" color.

The engine and rear end were painted Mopar orange when new, not yellow. I bought it new in '64 so know what was on it from the factory. Why not go back orange? I actually wanted two tone: maroon and cream, but that got so screwed up I went with fire engine red all over. Looks fine to me with the clear oak floor and rails, particularly since I am a driver, not a judge pleaser.

Ain't America great...you can pick whatever color you like on your truck!

Actually, the color you've painted that oil pan is Mopar engine red. Orange wasn't used on any slant-6s in the North American market, but it was used in the South African market. It wouldn't surprise me at all if your engine were originally this color of red you've painted the oil pan, or something very close to it.

I've got a 65 Dart wagon with the slant 6 (all original). I know the engine was red when new, but over the years has faded, been heated and cooled, etc so that it looks like an orangy color. I also would bet the original engine color was red. Of course being your engine, you can paint it any color you desire. I have a rebuilt 58 392 Hemi sitting on the stand waiting for a project and I decided to pattern it after the 68/69 426 Hemi's - Hemi orange with black crinkle valve covers.

When I inherited my 64 (with 12000 miles), the engine color was orange.

I cleaned everything up, and used hemi-orange. Blends in perfectly with parts of the engine that I couldn't get a straight shot to with the spray can.... Just looks like I cleaned things up a bit, and didn't paint it.

Who would have thought red would fade that much...

My apology to you Rock, I agree that you can paint any color that pleases you. I have a one owner 1966 D100 that I purchased new, and it's engine is painted yellow. As for a touch-up paint, I use John Deere implement yellow enamel, which is a close match to the original engine color. Again, I do apologize.

thanks for the apology, but none is needed and no offense was taken! You can see I have not been on this forum long, but already the guys and the help I have gotten here are the best I have ever gotten in any hobby. I was (and am) "into" really old radios (1920 -1935) for nearly 40 years and have seen the range of guys from those who won't even dust a radio to keep it "original" to those like me who will fix them electrically to listen to them..the non-dusters sneer at us radio users. The point is that in cars there are number matchers and poor boys like me who enjoy wrench turning and driving. And, LEARNING about our vehicles. It is very useful for someone to point out that there are yellow engines, then another fellow says wait, some were red, then orange in South Africa..few persons know what is in the 60's trucks because most persons concentrate in cars. SO a comment like yours sparked a thread that informed us all. No apology needed.

If anyone is looking for one of thes pans for the car - truck - Project I have one - compete with the pickup tube. It des have some rot in the bottom - But can be repaired and would take a lot less work than fabricating one from scratch.


For sake of discussion - it came out of a 64 power wagon and it was painted yellow from the factory - A bit of info for you purists.
